Vw Polo - Warped Disks

Recommended Posts

If its not one thing, its another with cars in our house at the moment....

My good lady wife has a Polo 1.4 which is 2 and a half years old. Recently its started juddering on the brakes and the garage confirmed my opinion that a disk is warped.

Now, given the age and mileage of the car (less than 30 000) I was expecting this to be a warranty job, but 'computer says no' thats considered normal wear and tear. Given that the car is still on its original tyres, VW appear to be saying that its perfectly normal for brakes to have a shorter life expectancy than tyres.

What do we all think ?

Paul

Personally I go through about 3 (possibly more) sets of front tires to a set of discs, and 2 sets of pads to a set of discs... But I drive quite hard quite a lot, so that's not really a good comparison...

My bird on the other hand, will also go through tires a lot quicker than brakes, and she only drives hard on the motorway or A roads....

would have thought 30000 on a normal car would be fine, but what if it was caused by a sticking caliper? theres so many variables,my mrs corsa has done 96000 on the orginal discs.

you'll have a hard time getting warranty on brake consumables that are more than a few months old if they were juddering from new that would be a different matter, i'd certainly expect discs to last longer than tyres though! all down to how its driven though, how many sets of pads have you had on the car?

Still on the original set of pads. Oh and they assure me there's nothing wrong with the callipers etc which might have caused overheating....

My wifes Kia Sedona has done 120K and is on its third set of discs, however this weighs 2.2 tons. Personnally I think it is poor especially as VW are not what I would call a budget car to start with.

Good question, Lan. The pads still look fairly meaty - I need to check back and see if they were changed at a service ...

A friend of mines dad has a Skoda Fabia (Polo underneath)? That too had warped discs and low mileage. Initially the dealer didn't want to know but eventually changed them under warranty. Coincidence?
