Recommended Posts

Retro Pug

Gutted.

Just got the 205 back on the road and i went out to it this morning to find it full of smoke and the interior still smoldering!

  • The sunroof vacum handle and interior light fitting is burnt out
  • The front seats are burned and have melted pastic on them.
  • The handblake surronund is melted away
  • The carpet is burned
  • Roof lining and sunroof cover is burned.
  • Both sunvisors are melted

I have no idea how its happened?

Can anyone offer any ideas?

Anyone have any of these parts?

Thanks

John :(

aerial water leak into the light unit causing a short is most likely.

I should have most (if not all) of the parts you need, assuming it's a factory sunroof model :)

Why it's happened is another matter entirely though - sounds like something has shorted out in the roof console and started a small fire, possibly as a result of water leaking in through the aerial or similar in the heavy rain we're experiencing? There's a couple of lights and the RCL receiver up there, two of which are constantly live. Most of the damage immediately below that will be as a result of burning and melted pieces falling, although the handbrake surround does seem a bit far back - there's nothing there to start or sustain a fire though.

A little worrying that it caught fire rather than pop a fuse though, although sounds like you were very lucky the whole thing didn't go up in flames!

Thanks both, I did wonder about a short but I though too the fuse should have blown?

Yeah very lucky could have been a lot worse!

Sounds great on the drop me a PM on what you have and costs etc.

Cheers again

John.
