Went Through A Puddle And Now My Engine Is Making A Ticking/knocking N

Recommended Posts

Well driving down country roads i had to go through a puddle as I left the puddle my car stopped, I didnt re-start it for 20 mins but when it started i now have a ticking/knocking noise. Im hoping its a bent con rod but it sounds to high pitched ticking noise, what other possiblities could it be??

Thanks

sorry its on a ford focus 1.4 2006 if that helps. I throught it might be something stuck somewhere but it felt under power.

well im hoping its nothing, bent bent con rod is easier to change than taking out the crankshaft lol ive given it a full service, no water was in the oil but air filter was soaked.

I thought the con rods couldn't be replaced on these engines. At least thats the case with the 1.6 zetec SE. The only bottom end things you can get is complete short blocks. thats what i discovered when i looked into new bottom end bearings for my mothers 1.6 focus anyway.

i guess if you sucked in a load of water you could have hyrauliced it and indeed bent the conrod or a valve.

Where does the knocking\tapping sound eminate from?

perhaps a video might help diagnose.

This is one of those times where trying to diagnose this over the internet is like taking a stab in a really really dark room!:lol:

ill get a video sounds like the top of the engine and its down on power. I am going to compression test it and see, it might be a hydraulic tappet. Dont say that sam306!!!! ive only just bought it!
