Bolts Supplier

Recommended Posts

Ok, tonnes of online bolts suppliers, I can find them no problem thanks to this wonderful search engine called Google.

However, can I find a supplier of cap-headed M10x1.0 (fine) pitched bolts? Can I buggery.

Anyone know of any good online bolt/fixing suppliers? Or failing that if I have to use that old thing called a telephone..... so be it.

Cheers,

Dan

What length do you need, do they need to be a bolt or a screw, and what quantity? I'll ask the place I use.

Are there not any decent fastening shops near you that supply to the local engineering firms?

I found one near me, went in with some bolts and was presented with stainless versions.

They will be hard to get due to being non standard pitch, all the fastener shops will keep rakes of standard pitch stuff in stock, but often fine stuff is to order only.

Dan, do they need to be cap heads, or will hex head do? Also what grade do you need?

They need to be cap head unfortunately, and I'm going to play it safe and use 12.9 grade. They are to bolt up a spacer between a propshaft and the input flange on a rear diff. These bolts will bolt through the spacer into the flange, so need to be cap headed so they can sit in a recess in the spacer, allowing the propshaft to be bolted up over the top of them.

I'm guessing with the torque being applied to them, they should be fairly high grade. They need to be a little longer than the original Ford items though, hence the search.

What length?

Oops, that might help - 40mm please, or anywhere thereabouts. I assume the cap is about 10mm itself - the spacer is 40mm thick, so assuming with the recess it's only got 30mm of material to bolt through, 40mm should be plenty. The input flange is less than 10mm thick. Is the cap is more than 10mm, reduce the threaded length accordingly.

They are a bitch to find, I use them for the flywheel on the buggy and had to have them custom ordered from a local fastener place, cost me a bomb. Only ones I could find in stock were stainless or titanium.

You might be able to get them from Mazda as the RX-8 automatic flywheel uses 'em, but depends on length!

Yeah, they are Ford bolts (Sierra diff) and it looks like they are identical to the Ford flywheel bolts - but they almost certainly won't have the length I need. I'll ring around in the week, thankfully I only need 8... four at a push if I thread the spacer with a different pitch, but that would be a little odd.

Looks like Wentins gets the business ;) had to order 50 but thankfully they double as diff bolts so sharing the cost with a mate who can put them to good use...!

Annoyed with NAS bolts to be honest - a website with no f***ing phone number, and they don't respond to the online web form, means they can take a running jump....
