Peugeot 407 2.0 Hdi Experiences?

Recommended Posts

I've more or less just bought one of these.

Do anyone here have any first hand experience of this car? I keep hearing from different sources that the 407 is a s*itty car, but it is really as bad as the rumours tell?

My parents have a 2006 2.0 hdi, has been a sound car, not as comfortable or relaxing to drive as the 406 is replaced. Very germanic, firm seats which I'm not a fan of. Reliability wise.. its been ok.. not great, certainly not as good as the 406. Plenty of electrical niggles, the heater control flaps broke so had no interior heat or window demisting (a known fault) Peugeot wanted 900odd quid to fix it, as its a dash out job to get to the heater box. They had it done for around half of that at a indi peugeot specialist, but still alot of hassle. The other worry is that Peugeot no longer guarentee the repair parts either, as apparently the replacement parts arent guarenteed to fix the problem.

I dont know, its not a bad car, mechanically its been fine, but there are lots of little faults that would annoy me if I bought one. (it gets through bulbs very quickly, lots of tyre pressure sensor faults, electrical 'hiccups' that annoy then dissappear..

ok as a saloon but the C5 is so much more practical if you need an estate, not sure what Pug's designers were thinking when they did the SW, the boot opening is so small and a daft shape.

depends very much on the engine choice, they all have their niggles but they've been around long enough for them to have been identified and any correctional causes to be addresses or at least highlighted.

Early ones killed frip joints of for fun, I know changes loads of them.

Dv6 gives loads of fap trouble

2.0 rhr good engine best choice but early ones went through egr valves

Petrol engines are noisy not cheap to run

V6 diesel and petrol heavy road tax

Dash board heater flaps go meaning a new heater box, dash out job

Abs sensor go for fun

Tyre deflation valves rot away causing problems

Blown build dectection is over sensitive.

They can be a good car though in the right spec !

I was looking for a 406 HDI estate & some of the car traders I visited will not touch the 407 HDI. They had too many comebacks under warranty & complaints. The HDI system is a lot more complicated & gives lots of electronic problems, the build quality isn't great & the quality of materials and plastics on the interior is poor.

I was told that if I found a good 406 to look after it as it was the last good car peugeot made! This is bourne out by the fact that my 406 hdi estate is still worth nearly what I paid for it 3 years ago.
