You should try owning something made by BL in the 1970s! :D That doesnt even come under the definition of rot!! :P

Easily fixable, had it repaired on my shell when the quarter panel was replaced. Many others have done the same recently, I believe someone has made and kept a cardboard template.

i agree with the others here and that is nowhere near terminal!

a competent diy'er could sort that and i am sure with the assistance of some of those on here so could you ( or you could get someone here to do it for you for an agreed price )

that way you avoid body shop hourly rates and learn in to the bargain :)

TBH it probably won't fail a MOT (unless the bumper mount completely falls off) but in terms of getting it fixed it would be a good couple of day work i would imagine for a competent bodyshop that is actually going to give a s*it about the quality of repair they produce, so your looking at £150/day at least I would have thought

That sections isn't available from Peugeot i don't believe so you'd have to find some one able/willing to make a replacement panel. Like Craig I've replaced the same section on mine recently and its not a huge job but it depends how far you go with your picking/repairing as I've now gone from that to sandblasting the boot/underfloor to get rid of other rusty areas

these are all repairable but it just comes down to whether you've got the skills/equipment/time to do them yourself and if not hence why these sorts of repair become uneconomical to a lot of people who don't have the means to fix them themselves

have a look at these couple of threads for inspiration

That section is a common rust area on 205's, so selling that shell and buying another might not put you in a much better position.

At the end of the day, these cars are mostly 20+ years old and rust is an unfortunate reality on more and more shells to differing degrees - the fact that they've lasted as long as they have is good by today's standards, let alone those of the 80's. At least that part is hidden from view, so the cosmetic element of the repair doesn't matter too much like it would with a visible panel, just make sure that it's strong and isn't bodged and storing up problems for the future.

I was in much the same boat as you 18 months back when I found areas of rust in a fairly advanced (if localised) state on my previous 205, and briefly pondered re-shelling it as I didn't have the ability or tools to repair it myself. What I did in the end (after a fair bit of advice/stick on here) was as much of the prep work as I could in the stripping, cutting out and making the repair pieces, and then bribed a friend to do all the welding for me. The result was that it didn't cost a lot to fix, I have much more confidence in tackling issues like this, and the car most importantly is going strong and putting a huge smile on the face of the new owner (who knows that the repair work was done)

considering the amount of stripping down and re assembly and assuming they give a decent amount of corrosion protection to the repaired area i would say thats not too bad a price.

i would be interested in seeing pics of the results too.

£100 a side for doing the whole job sounds very reasonable to me if that's doing it properly - as in, stripping it down, properly cutting out the rust, making a replacement section, welding it in, rust proofing and reassembling.

If that's just slapping a plate over the rust and covering it with a load of underseal, that's rather less attractive as whilst the immediate issue is solved, the rust is still going to be there and spreading out of sight...

I would factor in a few pound extra for some new bumper mount bolts and nuts as a minimum though, as I would be very surprised if they all (or indeed as is sometimes the case, any) come undone without snapping!

Well he said it would be a good job and that he will cut all the rot out and weld in new metal, i might get him to do under the rear seat and maybe the boot floor depending on how much he will want for doing it, as so far that is all the rot that i have found might take the carpets up soon to have a check, then im guna sell the half leather interior to fund for the original cloth one and then sell the 1.9 alloys to buy some pepperpots.

Off topic, but good man! I almost prefer the pepper pots, so much more retro!
