What Is This

Did some work on the 205 today to get it ready for a track day at Brands on Tuesday and after it had been running for a while noticed some smoke coming out from under the bonnet.

When I opened the bonnet the item below behind the nearside head light was smoking and gradually burning it's way through some cables. I probably should know the answer, but what is it and why is it smoking??

cooling fan low speed resistor, should be clipped to the top of the radiator with a steel clip, not resting on some wires!

I cannot recall now if we wired the ECU up to the fan's or not, but it's easy to do if you want or just ditch it and wire the fans up bypassing it so you slow speed becomes fast, one less thing to go wrong

So can I just remove the resistor and short it out and the fans will always run fast?

Think I'll go for that then, the resistor doesn't look very happy now :(

Depending on how quick you need it send it back to me and I'll make a neat loom out of it, Adding a wire isn;t the best thing to do and I can replace the Earth crimps if needed too

Send the Fan loom to me, the resistor is just binned and you end up with a nice 5 wire loom
