Mi16 Notchy Gearchange

Recommended Posts

Just put a miles recon gearbox and some nice gear rods on my mi16 205. When changing into mainly 2nd but sometimes 3rd there it is abit notchy. Guessing it cant be the gearbox or the clutch (which is new) so could it be the way the gear rods are set up or something.

BE gearboxes do seem to be fairly sensitive to oil grade/type in my experience.

Also, check that the clutch is adjusted properly and fully disengaging, as if it's dragging that can make it difficult to slot into gear.

^ agreed

I changed a clutch for a lad with a 306 gti6. he insisted on not changing the gearbox oil but adding a 2nd helping a gearbox additive.

Wouldn't go into gear after that. (or struggle to)

Ah fair play, well will have to check up on what gear oil it is. What would you guys recommend, as might just change it when I swap the driveshafts.

I havnt adjusted the clutch, how can I check this?

Little update, had a nice long drive of the car today and all went well. Noticed that it slots into gear fine if you push the gear over to the left of the gate. Could this be that one of the gear rods is too short/long?? Can I adjust this?

Unless it's really poorI think it is something you just live with.

My gears are a touch notchy but careful caressing gets it in!
