Does Anyone Here Race?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just out of curiosity, does anyone on the forum race their 205 in the Stock Hatch championship? http://www.750mc.co.uk/F-stock-hatch.php

If I had the money, expertise and space I'd love to pick up a cheap 1.6, spend a winter prepping it and race it as this looks like a (relatively) cheap way of going racing.

I've had a look around and can't see any threads on this.

Ian.

Baz does sprints, Alan Dixon used to the Combe tintops, a few others do stage rallying, I service and Marshall at rallies, but mostly I think there's just track sheds !

thinking back, there is a member on here that does tintops but not stock hatch.

205's dont seem to be used in stock hatch any more.

Shame that - they seem to be an ideal choice for the classic Stock Hatch discipline, although a friend of mine went down the Fiesta route when he had a go even though he was a Peugeot man (not sure why).

The thing that attracted me was the price of going 'real racing'. I used to race 1/10th scale model cars but could easily go through £10k a year and it just wasn't sustainable but Stock Hatch looks a lot cheaper over the year with the bonus of being full size!

That's where I started back in 1998, good place to start but body damage is quite common

I sprint and hillclimb, as Miles says body damage can be an issue on the circuits, whereas on the hills/sprints its just you and clock so if you bend it it's down to you and not someone elses lack of car control.

You can pick up a few S/H 205's/XR2's pretty cheap, they won;t be the nicest of things but a base to start from, you would be looking at class B which is for the older car's so not up against 106's/Saxo's which rule front row's

I race in AutoGrass in the stock hatch class with my 205 1.6 GTI. We have 4 205,s a 309 with the odd Saxo VTR and nova/Corsa SRI (must be 1.6 and 8 valve) in the stoch hatch class and even though it says in the rules no contact rubbing's racing!!!!!!

Nice clip mate, looks like you were having fun there! I run the 205 in the MLR sprint series which has a guest class. I should be doing Blyton next month hopefully.
