Endurance Road Rally Car Engine Build

Recommended Posts

Graz

Hello ladies and gents.

I'm a long time lurker first time poster!

I'm planning on entering the Endurance Road Rally Championship next year in my 1988 205 XS and would like some advice on the engine spec and how I can get there. So some of this might be repeated my apologies if it is I tries using the search and couldn't quite find the answer to what I wanted.

Ok let's start at the beginning, class I'm entering is 1301-1400cc.

I'm planning on upping the compression ratio to somewhere in the region of 10:1 or in the mid 10's, blueprinting the inlets and exhaust ports and fitting an exhaust after the standard manifold, fitting upgraded engine bushes and a paddle or uprated clutch for relability.

In the long term I'm thinking of swapping over to fuel injection and Megasquirt ECU I'm not sure how much of a good idea this is but I think it would tie all the mods together and release the full potential of the engine.

My first problem I've come up against is raising the comp ratio and resolving the cam timing issues. How has this been done by others? From the searches I've done I know easiest and simplist way to do this is fit a venier can pulley but can it be done by standard peugeot parts? I'm not sure if this is against regulations as it's not mentioned we're not allowed to run cam's or any major aftermarket parts as the organisers want to keep a low profile and not be such a "race or rally" car event if that makes sense.

If I can get any help that would be great, if there's any Endurance guys on the forum please say hi and let me know what your running and how you've found the championship.

If anyone else wants to have a look at the championship website have a look at http://www.endurance-rallying.co.uk/ .

Many thanks.

Graham

Engine mod's aren't allowed for Endurance rally cars - have a look at section A7 in the technical regs (downloadable from the website).

Ken

Do you take part in the championship? I plan on visiting a couple of events and watching over the scrutineering to see the preperation in the cars.

Hi Mate,

No I don't but I know a few who do - I just wanted a prep-ed 205 to get back out on some road rallies whilst I sort the Escort out. Was really after a GTi but the Rallye came up at the right price.

The Endurance guys are all pretty friendly and there seems to be a real "help each other out" ethos there.

I do wish there was a bit more flexibility with the engine/gearbox regs though.

Yeah there does seem to be a bit of a few grey areas in the regs in other places. I don't know if I'm being stupid or interpreting the regs incorrectly but I feel you could argue the regs abit. At least you would get away with it once!
