What Insurance Company Do You Use?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have a rover 25 as a daily driver as i do a lot of motorway miles, but have just bought a CTI and just want to use it as and when i desire, what would be my best options insurance wise? Any of you guys in a similar situation? If i use all my no claims on my daily driver the CTI insurance would be £1200, which just for occasional use is far to much! Admiral multi car stills comes in at £2000 for both cars, which is a little over what i would like to pay. The CTI is only 24 years old, so i don't believe this classes as a classic for car insurance purposes, so that's a no go, Even limited mile policies are over a £1000 and i am 29 with 9 years NCB!

Any Ideas?

John

I've got my insurance through Adrian Flux for many years now, and have found them to be excellent.

I'd imagine your best option is to go for a limited mileage policy if you only use it occasionally.

most places will take a 10 y/o 205 gti as a classic, give footman james a ring, my gti6 205 is 200 a year and im 26 :)

Hey John,

I got around this by going on an Admiral multicar with my wife - this way we could use both our no claims and we've just insured my 1.6 GTI and our 206 cc HDI for a shade over £500 between them (I'm 33 and she's 31).

Ian.

Classic car insurance for sure, 24year old car is well within the boundaries for it. Now I'm 21 and only use it in the summer I'm changing to a classic policy when I renew in a couple months.

There are a lot of threads on here about this exact thing... Have a search through about sky insurance? They apparently offer a club discount...??

I'm 30 with 6 years ncb, just got my 205gti6 with ITB's and other bits insured through Peter Best for £301 for 3000mile limited on a classic policy!! Give them a try too as I have minimal excess and other bits of the policy sound great too!!

Oh, and my 205 is a '90 so is only 22 years old, but still counted as classic... All my ncb will carry on being tied up in my daily driver now...

Aren't you going to struggle as you're 21?? Heard of some companies asking you to be over 24...??

No, quite a few companies offer it at 21. Of course it varies from insurer to insurer.

I insure both of mine with HIC - 205 1.6 GTI costs me £250 fully comp, Alfa 156 GTA costs me £530 fully comp. ^_^

I'm 27 with 6 years NCB, mileage is limited to 4k on the 205.

Fare play!!

The benefit of classic insurance is I'll be able to be paying the same for 2 as I would for the gti on standard insurance :) so long as I get myself something poverty spec as my daily!!

I found out last week that Adrian flux and HIC are the same company... Found out when I called one and then the other and the same person answered the phone....

I'm with flux direct on a classic policy. I can do 8k a year all covered fully comp for 300 but we have a focus 1.8tddi and a 1275 gt mini too, both are insured in my name too but they have my fiancés name in the policy too and as she is only 26 and only passed her test in January :( so it costs a further 1200 to insure them but she pays that ;)

Obviously I kept my ncb to use on my own motor though lol

once a car reaches 15 years old it becomes possible to insure as a classic. :) i wanted to do this with the 205 whilst its been off the road but not having a garage or somewhere secure to store it meant i couldnt :(

Im with Adrian Flux and paying £700 fully comp on the 309 with a 16v conversion and GTi6 brakes :) and im 29 this year. :(

everywhere else wanted like £2000 off me  one company wanted over £9000  and my old company although insuring the car wouldnt requote!

definately sounds to me like you need to do some more searching as i can insure both my 309 and my Dimma (which is modded to high heaven apparantly, on agreed value and ltd mileage) for around £1300 for both.

Its a classic policy you dont use no claims

most insurers will count a 205 gti as classic from 10 years old, 20 years for most other models. You dont need a garage either it can be on the street or drive and still be a classic policy :)

Cameron, are they mirroring your NCB on both cars?

Regarding Adrian Flux (remember that HIC are the same company as mentioned above), they are good in so much as they've typically managed to get me the cheapest quotes which is why I've stayed with them for years, and they are usually quite good on the phone. But they were pretty much redundant when I had a claim (I did most of the communication directly with the under writer) and they've massively pissed me off with their rip off tactics recently when I changed vehicle mid policy.

So bare that in mind. You might get a cheap quote for the year but if you think you might need to make a mid-term adjustment and your insurer uses that as an excuse to arse rape you (they've basically got you over a barrel) then they suddenly aren't so great any more.

Personally, I'm extremely loathe to use Flux again at renewal time just because of this. But most people will just go with whoever gives them the cheapest quote, so they'll continue to do good business.

I don't use the NCB on the 205 as it's a classic policy, only for the Alfa. :)

Just tried adrian flux, cheapest quote was just shy of £700, its apparently because i live in manchester that the quotes are so high?

try living in northern ireland mate. when i was at uni in aberystwyth i bought a renault 5 GT turbo, over there it cost me 600 to insure at 19, brought it home and insuring it again this time a 20 yo it cost me 1500.

NI is the worst place to insure a car even though they no longer have paramilitary checkpoints where they pull you out of your car and torch it.
