My vote is keep it 1.6 and get the correct wheels, seats and grey trim.

Looks nice, I take it there isn't too much to do? A dent man should be able to pull the dent out hopefully?

i see my car has a twin lol! :)

i too would keep it as a 1.6 and get it to as original as you can as you have a good clean base car to begin with.

Yep another for keeping it original. Those little 1.6's can be just as much if not more fun than the 1.9

HI thanks for the replies 1.6 it is then, went for its m.o.t today and is guna cost £295 to get it through it needs some welding to the rear bumper mount sections and uder the rear seats, so i take it the interion isnt original then always thought it was a 1.9 interior, there is some original pepper pot alloys at the local scrap yard aswell as a cherry red gti with some parts still left on it. Im still getting quotes for a respray of around £1500 so im hoping to get that done next year unforunatley the car looks a little better in the pictures as the paintwork is a little faided and the bonnet is a different shade of red.

Hi thanks for the reply only reason I ask is I have seen a few other red 1.6 gti's with the same interior so thought I might be original.

If its a 1600 Id also keep it a 1600..

I actually prefer the full cloth seats anyway :D

try and go for the earlier cloth (tweed??) seats found in the phase1 1.5, as the phase 2 with black cloth wears really badly!

Edit: oh and please keep the indicators on the front original ;)

Scott, I only live up the road in Boston. Are they 1.9 speedlines you're trying to sell? If so, how much do you want for me to come and pick them up?
