HI everyone thought i would start a thread showing my latest project, a Peugeot 205 CJ that i bought with 1 owner from new, every service stamp/tax mot, immaculate interior and only 50k from new! a real time warp been dry stored for 12 years!

She is curretnly at a friends garage getting the following done

  • GTI6 Engine with 42K fitted and Xsara 5 Speed box
  • Front GTI SUbframe
  • Full Spax adjustable Suspension
  • Full Scorpion exhaust with decat
  • GTI6 Brakes upgrade
  • GTI Clocks
  • 1.9 GTI Alloys Fitted
  • The engine is going to be fully stripped and rebuilt with new head gasket/cam belts and fully painted

Then in June its booked in at my mates bodyshop for the bodywork,

But im a little undecided on what route to take, whether to go gti front and rear valances with smoothed bumpers and rallye arches or a full blown dimma rep kit (as the real one is £1600!!)

Anyway heres a few pics

The engine and Gearbox and Interior may be up for grabs in the near future!

Looks minty mint! I think you should leave the outside pretty much standard apart from GTI valances.

A couple of things I'll point out with the TU>XU swap;

-I see your changing to GTI clocks, you'll also need a complete dash doom from a GTI to swap over, also a complete engine bay lighting etc loom.

-You'll need a GTI/diesl gear lever and rods

-The 1.9 GTI alloys will rub really bad on the base model rear arches, even when cut back they can still catch, it would be a good idea to use 14's (although you could only fit 1.9 GTI brakes then, however they are more than up to the job)

-Has the exhaust got two silencers? Mine is a magnex item with two and its still very loud so be wary of that!

Goof luck and I look forward to the updates!

Thanks for your reply and the extra info, i believe he has all the correct wiring for the conversion i am literally dropping it off when i go to sea (Navy) for a month and picking it up complete, hes done one before so shouldnt be a problem.

I was thinking about the wheels rubbing as been doing some reading on this site about standard arch sizes, my thoughts were to use the rallye arches or a dimma kit to overcome this, but i was really trying to keep it low key looking, very minimalist but mint. But i would like to run at least a set of 15" (prefer 16s) splitrims at about 7" wide with some arch mods. Im actually collecting car in the 5th of may and then its going into a mates bodyshop for phase 2 on the 6th!!

So basically i need to give him an idea of where i want it to go by then, so as i say i will need some serious arch mods for these wheels to work if this would be possible? I think though with the rallye arches mounted and the standard arches cut right back would be ok? But i am on the lookout for some GTI valances.

The exhaust has two silencers i believe and he is knocking me up a decat pipe, but i did say i didnt want it too loud as im too old for all that!! So well just see.

Christ that is fresh :o

I'd personally leave the exterior 100% standard even the little wheels and enjoy the "sleeper" element..!

you need to get a XU engine mount to weld into the inner wing as it's a early shell

Don't think it is? F reg, phase 1.5 with a TU?

Miles is correct, looks like the wrong wing mount.

I thought exactly the same! didnt realise there was any 'crossover period' with the tu engines and xy mount? thought it just was a straight cut off point?

Miles

The XY engine is different again, That's the early TU mount

I suggest you look through this forum to see many 'questionable' examples of their work!

is it the angle of the pic, or is the left most inlet valve different to the others? having a flat face?

best of luck.

I've met Andy, he talks the talk but definitely, definitely doesnt back it up with quality work. 'Shoddy' would be a compliment. - And i'm not trying to badmouth anyone, just hoping that others might avoid being taken for a ride.

Well its been a while but got car back today and very happy. Just to add to thread ive been happy with andys service at highflow heads, hes had excellent communication and given me regular updates. Although the car has been there a while i wanted everything done exactly as required, There was a couple of issues with clutch gearbox and they were all sorted within a day free of charge. So although his reputation might not be great on here i would recommend him.

Anyway what to do next? Bodywork/interior.

Unsure where to go? thinking just GTI valances and keeping it standard with a full respray. Then looking for a bit of a unique interior maybe a GTI set retrimmed?

Any ideas are welcome!!
