Optimum Power For A 205..?

Recommended Posts

Batfink

Its a silly argument as the engine is only one small part of the package. Suspension choice and chassis spec all make a difference to how fast the car is and its ability to control its power. You might want to look at F2000 rally cars and how on dry tarmac they could match the turbo 4wd cars on pace. The 306 had over 300 bhp running through its front wheels.

yes, this conversation is like trying to cut down the largest tree in the forest, with a herring.

Oh alright, if we're being serious, somewhere north of 1001.

If we're cutting trees down, 2bhp should do the trick.

Would more horsepower help? How about 10,001?

This is ridiculous.

And regarding the 'ring it does have plenty of straights or least fast fluid bends. It's not what you'd call twisty.

I agree that the statements about the ring not having any "straights" is rubbish, you only have to do a simple bit of maths on a 10 min lap to see what the average speed is, this in turn characterises the circuit better than any description.

For a ten minute lap iirc you need to average 80.

And there is no true flat straights...

What circuit in this country has a true flat straight...?

thruxton, silverstone to name two.

All i know is when youre on the ring in real life, not sat on the sofa with your xbox controller in one hand and the other around your balls.. being on a naughty side of 140 at the ring anywhere dosent feel like the m1....

Even in an e36 which (i may be biased) is one of the quickest ways around the 'Ring feels uneasy with 300+, f*** doing that in a 106/saxo/205 with similar power...

I have to agree that this is slightly pointless. You could have the same discussion about TVs or washing machines, or just about anything really. It's all about being fit for purpose.

Even if the topic had been "Optimum power for a 205 specifically for xxx track" it's still going to depend on driver preferances. I.e. driver A may be able to attck corners at 10/10 and squeeze every last ounce of performance from the car, so only requires x power/torque, whereas driver B may not be as capable in the corners and requires x + 25% power/torque to compensate.

If you are talking more about road use than track use, then you've got even more variables!

You simply can't estimate what is the optimum for ANYTHING without setting down a specific list of criteria/objectives upon which to measure against.

You've obviously never been to Thruxton there is no straight in sight on it, let alone 'flat'.

Silverstone once again isn't flat.
