A Few Questions

Recommended Posts

pugmarshall

I would be very greatful if anyone could help me out with a few queries I have...

Why do 15" wheels not fit too well on pov spec shells? Is it the inner or the outer of the arch that rubs?

What is an ideal tyre size for 14" wheels, on a 205, lowered approximately 50-60mm?

I have had a search and IIRC 306 coilovers will fit with 205/309 top mounts, can anyone confirm this and what is the best option to take with regards to the ARB droplink mount?

Thanks in advance!

15s catch on the front arch lip and the double skinned outer as well as the rear bumper.

14" want 185.60.14s and can be low on 1.6 wheels or 306 14"s

although in saying that with the shell to shell variances you could also be absolutely fine. I've never had a problem with running 15" wheels on the front of any of my pov spec 205's. I've also had no problems running them on the rear of one of them with a standard axle, saying that my other one scraped like a bi-atch, and when I upgraded to a GTi axle then both of mine rubbed constantly.

Brilliant, thanks guys. I'm going to stick with 14's from a Dturbo.

Anyone know what the standard brake disc size is for a 1.1 Junior?

Right, I am breaking my 306 Dturbo, anything I should keep and use on my 205?

I'm going to fit the calipers and some new discs and pads... What about ARB's and Master Cylinder etc? Anything worth swapping?

:)

rear beam is 100mm wider but you might as well save it anyway for the trailing arms if it has got disc brakes

It hasn't but I do have a GTi6 rear beam... so the trailing arms fit a 205, or just the discs? Cheers

The brake disc diameter is the same across all of the 205 range as standard at 247mm.

Only difference is solid or vented on the GTI & STDT models.

I'm Running a Diesel with 195/50/15's lowered 60mm

As i paid a tenner for the springs  and then match the back

No problem on the front but rear is the problem you need to grind the lip off but cant have any back passengers

I gently levered the rear arch out slightly which helped massively, still need to go out a little further though. It only catches just slightly on the outside of the tire.

I'm not really interested in 15's anyway, not enough to justify modifying the shell!

I'm sticking with 14's, and I'll fit some vented Dturbo discs :) Thanks

So I could fit vented discs fom a 306 dturbo without changing the calipers? What about pads, I take it 306 Dturbo pads wouldn't fit my Junior?

Sorry for all of the Q's! Just want to be sure...

If the discs are the same size, then the calipers are going to need to be changed over to accept the wider vented discs (I think, someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

If the calipers are bigger and fit behind the wheels then swap them over anyway??!! It'd be the same principal many of us use for putting the gti6 calipers on in exchange for the standard 1.9gti ones....??

on a side note, can you fit the rallye steels over a gti6 brake conversion on a 205?

Gti6 calipers knocked the balance weights off my wheels behind my standard 1.9 gti wheels!!::

(I put SMR's back on instead of the Speedlines as they had more tread!!)
