mechanicalrepairs 8 Posted April 9, 2012 Has anyone used this on the black plastic trims to good effect? I know there is talk of dyeing the trim back to black but the ones I have some are Matt black and others have gone greyish. Carl
matty_gti 20 Posted April 9, 2012 Plasticote is a paint?. I've used plasticare for the whole of my dash which worked a treat. Dark grey or really light grey it will work. Very good stuff.

cybernck 402 1 Cars Posted April 9, 2012 By the way, the best price for Plasticare can be found here: http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=136077
MiniGibbo 142 Posted April 10, 2012 When i was in the bodyshop picking my car up last week, i was talking to the guy about this stuff and he said where theyre fibreglass..? its better to paint the trims.
welshpug 1,646 Posted April 10, 2012 definitely not fibregash, they are fairly flexible plastic hence the use of a dye rather than a paint.
BERTMAN 40 1 Cars Posted April 10, 2012 (edited) the bumpers are definitely glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP), and have hardly any flex at all and are really brittle. I can't 100% remember but i don't think the valance has any fibre reinforcement and you can definitely notice the difference in stiffness. Anthony 1,002 Posted April 10, 2012 Original OE bumpers are some variant of GRP as far as I'm aware - aftermarket pattern bumpers are usual flexible plastic more skin to the arch mouldings. Plasticare still works a treat on the OE bumpers.
welshpug 1,646 Posted April 10, 2012 duuurh was thinking of the trims and forgot the bumpers
MiniGibbo 142 Posted April 10, 2012 Dunno just what he mentioned. i plan to try to plasticote as its cheaper tbh..
johnnyboy666 195 1 Cars Posted April 10, 2012 depends if you want to paint the bumpers or just bring the colour back. I'd recommend plasticare any day
Rich_p 23 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) plasticare will be far easier and lots cheaper, it's just applied with a sponge and dies the plastic. Plastikote is a spray paint in a can meaning you will have to prep the bumpers/arches, prime them with plastikote primer then spray with plastikote. That will be far more time consuming and expensive. Edited April 11, 2012 by Rich_p
mechanicalrepairs 8 Posted April 14, 2012 When this arrives I will take a before and after and we can see, I have a tatty older 205 so will do a trim and see what's what. Cheers for all the advice, have also ordered some of the dye mentioned above. Carl
