The "boring vag group" isn't the most exciting, but they are reliable!!

debatable! especially at this price bracket .

Which bit?? Te exciting or reliable??

My pd150 lump is 120k and still going strong, no problems, just general servicing costs like the clutch & fly, and the belts and pump that have cost me a bit this last year...

I'd say that was in this price bracket now, mk1 leon on a 54 plate...

As I said somewhere further up the thread - some VAG's of that era seem to be fine, whereas others are a nothing but a very expensive nightmare.

(it might be me being old fashioned, but I wouldn't call a flywheel a "general service cost" - stupid designed-in failure maybe, but certainly shouldn't be a service item!)

I completely agree!! Dual mass are crap idea!! I was going to put a standard fly in it at the time but it was going to cost me a couple of hundred extra which I didn't have at the time... Would have saws money next time... Have to say I think I may have been lucky with mine as you righty say...

He's right, it is a fairly well known fault on them, and hence the general recommendation is to stick with the PD130 engine which doesn't suffer the same issue.

Do a search on Google for something like "Golf TDi 150 camshaft" and I'm sure you'll find tales of woe.

2000-2004 Passat sport 130bhp...... 4k will get you a minter and they remap up to 170bhp with 55+mpg

Also after driving a 406 hdi..... they don't pick up very well in comparison to my d tub. I'd go vag personally. Audi 80s/100s with the straight 5s in are ment to be bombproof and still retain 55+mpg. Easy to work on too and you could pick one up for £500 ish and then spend a bit on sorting it out

Great cars, and IMO the best diesels out there, but seized injectors, fragged turbos and swirl flaps scare the bejesus out of me!

From the 4 doors, its a saloon, so a Passat, Bora, A4, 3 series?

3 Series, yes... But which engine?

Surprising hint: it was cheaper on ins than a Honda Accord...

I bought a 330D manual saloon in black. It is fully HPI'd, 3 owners (hubby, wife and family friend), 76000 miles, FSH, All extras, no swirl flaps, and it only cost........

Guesses (trade price according to Glass's for an 80k car was £2645, retail was £3365 or something)
