205 Trio Body Differences

Recommended Posts

allsmiles

Hi folks, currently there is a 205 trio on ebay which i am interested in purchasing so i can reshell my current 205 gti running gear into it, would anyone know whether the bodys are the same so that the change over can be completed without much messing about.

Thanks

Front and rear arches are much bigger on GTI's to accommodate the 15's, obviously there are all the holes for the GTI body kit that won't be there.

Other than that its all bolt on.

Reference the rear arches, its not as simple as just cutting them back and job's a goodun, as when you do it separates the two skins and essentially leaves a big gap leading into the rear quarter area.

Many thanks for that, if i was to buy this 205 trio i dont plan to modify the front or rear arches anyway, i plan to bond some replica rallye arches on the front and back and run series 2 106 rallye wheels.

S2 106 Rallye wheels will rub on the rear arches.

If your going to bond on rallye style arches, you can chop away at the offending arches without a problem... no rubbing

I'm shortly fitting a set of s2 rallye steels with 185/55/14s to my lowered base model. I'll report back as to how I get on, although I didn't think I was going to encounter any problems.

Same tyres as I am running, on all 3 of the 205 base model shells I've had the wheels on they have rubbed, I'm getting the arches rolled on the XS at some point to cure it once and for all and it does my nut in so bad.

with a base model drum the rear track is narrower.

thats what i was thinking, maybe thats why mines never rubbed..?

Ive only ever had one passenger though so with a full car it still might...

i think its pretty much guaranteed it'll rub with a 309 beam and base model shell, regardless of wheels tbh. You'd need to cut the arches, as said though if your fitting some rallye arches then its not so much of a problem
