Mi16 Conversion Running Issues .

Recommended Posts

jonny6

Finally got my Mi16 running in my 205 this morning . it starts ok and runs nice but any kind of throttle input makes the car want to bog down and stall , you can gently apply a couple a mm of throttle and it will rev up slightly , but anymore throttle than that and doesnt like it at all , any input it does register its rather erratic at best . could it a a dodgy throttle positon sensor ? or maf ?

rather baffed ?

it has neither MAF or a throttle position sensor, but a throttle position SWITCH, and an Air Flow Meter.

switch is easy enough to test, centre terminal is the common input IIRC and the other two will be the pair of switches, one for off and one for WOT.

have you checked the flap in the AFM moves freely? there are checks you can do to this unit as well, have a search for the CAPS software for diagnosing faults on Motronic 1.3, also a workshop manual for the 405 or BX has lots of info about these systems.

Does it start missing when you throtle it or just start bogging down ?

dont think it misses , when you try to go give it some throttle it just wants to cut out . you can just about get it to rev if you nurse the throttle very very very slowly , even then it isnt pleasant . its as if as soon as the throttle body starts to open it drowns the engine with to much air maybe ?

Yeah after youv'e checked what the man said ie tps and the afm i was thinking in the same vein.you could take the inlet side of the afm off and just watch the flap as you open the throttle to make sure its operating . As you just said your only changing the air /fuel mixture so maybe a back to basics after that and check your intake pipes for leaks and splits etc.
