Having A Hard Time Finding Quality Parts

Recommended Posts

ALEX

The hardest and most time consuming for me is finding parts for my on going restoration.

I only use the dealer as a last resort, as they seem over priced, provide a poor service and I often have to buy a batch of parts for just one item.

Places like ebay can be risky on new replacement parts as you don't know the quality untill you get them.

GSF in Huddersfield are helpful and if they can get me the part ill give them the business.

Peugot specialist in Brotherton is helpful, but too expensive.

My local motor factor is mint, open late, and cheap as chips. but I think most of these independent shops are all good for stuff like brake pads, filters, exhaust and gasket kits.

I ask though becuse I'm drawing a blank on replacing the steering column universal joint rubber boot, part number 4151 03.

Did peugeot stop fitting this part on later models as I dont remeber seeing one on my last 205.

I was wonddering if they are the same as the 106 or saxo so i could find one in the scrappers.

those boots werent used on pas cars or any later pugs, all 106 joints are inside the cabin iirc

Alex, give SEL Imperial in Doncaster a go. They can supply all genuine bits at better prices than the dealer, they will also deliver to your door and you can pay cash on delivery.

Could be why looking for this part is like looking for rocking horse s**t.

My previous 205 was a J plate with PAS, so it would explain that.

If it's not required I'll leave it off, unless the later versions used a different universal joint or something instead of the rubber boot.

The Cti I'm restoring is on a F plate and the rubber boot I'm trying to replace is full of holes.

I was looking for 2 locking washers for the track rods as I've removed them for powder coating. The washers are behind the rubber gaitors and to not to confuse you with the lock nut on the other end for the track rod end,

though this is what the dealer will probably pull out when I collect it on Thursday after paying £8 because I had to buy 4 of them!

Cheers I will. Have you got a web link ?

I've found in the last few days that quite a few parts have been discontinued for the 205 GTI 1.6, I really struggled to find the correct nearside male / female flexi hose from the T piece to the lower shock mount & even though I had a motaquip part number for this hose, it has been discontinued. :(

I had a Motaquip part number for a HT lead set I bought for a friends GTI in 2009 but these have also been discontinued & they couldn't get any HT leads through them at all!!

I might still be able to find some cheapy ones but really want the best I can get for it.

I was in the dealer earlier in the week and the guy said its amazing how Peugeot just discontinue everything once a car reaches a certain age..

You can get virtually everything for BMW's through the dealers.. I was so Suprised.

But then on the other hand I suppose Peugeot never thought there cars would be around after 10-15 years..?

I haven't tried the dealers as I can check service box to see if its still available first but this is from Motaquip, basically a fancy motorfactors for all makes but part of the PSA group!

Well Ive learnt today that its not a good idea to get your tie rods powder coated!

I thought i would be worth the risk and wondered if it was a nylon bearing in them or brass.

With the melted plastic that has come out of them they're now useless! They look good though.

So another trwal on the internet and I found it's going to cost me £45 for genuine Pug ones each! or there's cheaper ones for £12 each on ebay.

I really don't want to fork out £100 on a cock up. do you think it's worth the risk on buying the ebay items? or would I be better off buying a secondhand rack and robing the tie rods?

I bought a track rod the other day, £12.50 from the factors, they got it in the same day, 2 yr guarantee on it, no brainer for me.
