So Many 205's Round Here......

Recommended Posts

pp205

So you don't see that many 205's around these days........

Well, since moving to Cullompton in Devon I've seen loads and loads! Seems like a retirement town for them!

I've seen at least 7 different Gti's on more than one occasion, a caged XS that lives down the road from me, a lovely little E reg white van, 2 DTurbos and several base models.

It's a nice refreshing change to see so many!

I see quite a few in Edinburgh too. Was following a very sad looking G reg graphite 1.9 through Stockbridge on Sat (if the owner is on here, your beam is shot - but then you probably already know that ^_^ ).

I see a lot more 'poverty' spec ones that I thought I would do. It's the same old story though, when you have a car you notice others more.

I do wave at any I see though if I am in mine. To this date, none have waved back; or even seen the wave actually come to think of it.

Whenever I see one pass me I say to the wife: 'See that, he is absolutely loving life and the driving experience'.

I rarely see any around here, though there is a local STDT, and I know where I could find one or two parked up but I dont seem them day to day driving about, might be that I'm one of the rare few nutters that drive to work in them

Most of the others known to be in the area are likely to be road rally or stage cars that live in lockups!

There's a diesel one here at work. And an old faded blue 309 that I am waiting to stop seeing and find out has been scrapped come the MOT.

The lower spec ones are the cars that get to an MOT, have a £400 bill and end up being scrapped. Shame. Only takes a failing beam to get to that stage.

I drive to work sometimes in mine, but it would take me longer to rearrange my driveway than it would to do the journey.

I don't see many but when I do i wave. Not many people wave back. However I did share a moment with another gti owner once when we were both flying down some back roads in the opposite direction to one another. We both gave a little nod and a smile to each other as we passed both loving it. (err ok that sounds pretty camp... I can assure you it was a manly driving experience!)

Funnily enough I was just looking at flats to rent, and went on Streetview and saw a blue bodykitted GTI in the car park :D And it's only 5 minutes down the road from where I live now, but never seen it on the road.

Also, I'm not sure if it was posted on here or another forum, but several months back someone had linked to Barryboys, and it was a minging lurid green CTI with an awful (DIY possibly) bodykit. I could tell from the pics that it was somewhere in Scotland, possibly Glasgow I thought. Low and behold, he was at the pumps next to me at my local petrol station the other day (I was keeping my fingers crossed that he was buying a gallon to torch it with). Guess he didn't go through with it as I saw him again in the loacl area the other day. Horrible, horrible car.

To be fair when I see older base model 205s I think fair play. As mentioned, doesn't take much of a bill to make people give up on a car, so when I see an old one knocking about I do think they must enjoy keeping it on the road.

Only know of me and madspikes around Dorchester and there is one white GTI in Weymouth. The last time I drove the coast road from Weymouth to Bridport I saw a red 1.9, a grey 1.9 and a topaz CTI all within 10 minutes!

From a 10 mile radius of me I know of four 2.0 8valves and my own mi16, and there's a couple more I've seen but not sure off! Glad to say most are in very good condition! :)
