207 Gti 1.6 Turbo - Anyone Know Anything About Them?

Recommended Posts

buchanan84

Got a 57 plate 207 Gti with the 1.6 turbo engine (175bhp) that I believe is shared with the Mini Cooper S

the engine has 4 bent valves!!

So plan is to drop in a 2nd hand enigine

Does anyone know if the Mini engine is a suitable replacement? (seems to be few of them on ebay but no pug ones)

as far as I can see they look the same but cant find much facts on them...

also anyone know of any other complications to be aware of??

I beleive it has a high pressure injection pump which might complicate things...

Cheers for any info :)

I don't think it'll be close enough in spec to be an easy swap into a pug, better off sticking to a pug/citroen donor I think, 308 DS3 DS4 and a few others have them

or you could just fix what you have, given its age I'd imagine a replacement engine will cost more than repairing what you have unless it has scrapped the block.

did the chain tensioner give up? heard of timing component issues on early cars

looks like the timing has slipped but the previous owner had removed the rocker cover and timing gear so cant really tell

thinking it will be easier with a 2nd hand engine as it should be quicker as wont have to strip/ investigate the engine (borrowing a mates workshop)

also quite a bit unknown i.e. just valves? head? pistons?

If you do strip it, take some pics and post it up. Would like to see what they look like.

I also heard that the early models had bad quality chains that stretched to much...

does anyone know of a trustworthy 2nd hand engine supplier?

tried 247parts and got a couple of replies but when I googled for reviews it was all bad so made me a bit nervous of using them

tried a couple of places I've used before but no luck

e-mailed a couple of the guys on e-bay with the mini engine, 1 came back saying it would definately fit but wouldnt take paypal (even though it was advertised with it) but had 30day waranty if i paid by cash, cheque or abnk transfer ;)

I've seen numerous Ds3's in work with stretched timing chains on EP6 engines and then theres the breather issues aswell which Citroen/peugeot are trying to keep quiet. It's been more or less rectified with the latest batch of engines blocking off one of the breathers which in turn raises the emissions hence them keeping it quiet! see here - http://www.etuners.gr/en/index.php?s=12&t=299

For the chain there was an update since 2010 or so... maybe check servicebox for different part numbers.
