Getting Fuel Out Of A Ka

Recommended Posts

jeremy

My daughters teabag of a KA with blown hg is going to car heaven on monday, however it has over half a tank of fuel in it. It is a 1.3 with the fuel rail at the back of the engine, and I can take off the fuel feed and return pipes no problem, even working out which is which. My problem is when I turn the ignition on it will only pump out a small amount of fuel then stop, I assume there is some fail safe device overiding the fuel feed as no pressure somewhere due to pipes being disconnected but could be wrong. I have managed to syphone 5 litres out the fuel filler but cannot get anymore out, hence why trying the method above. Help greatfully appreciated as about half a tank still left in it.

Thanks

Jeremy

that's just the fuel pump priming, give it 12v directly and it'll pump it all out.

Great now where do I connect the 12v feed to within the engine bay, or is it a case of taking a feed direct to the pump itself? Sorry to sound thick but when breaking 205 (I know we should not say such blasfemous (sp) words here anymore) I just use to remove the whole tank.

not a clue, fuel pump relay would be a good place to try

or under the back seats directly if the pump is accessible.

Ok had a look at the fuel feed and return pipes in a similar position to a 205 except the hole on the bodyshell is smaller than that of all the gubbins you could have to take out if broken (clever that not!) anyway the wires are easy enough to get to, there are four two thinner ones red/white, and black/yellow, then two fatter ones orange/purple, and black with no stripes. Would it be reasonable to assume I need to connect to the orange/purple one?

Thanks again and your laughing has been noted thankyou!

if you can get to the fuel sender unit unscrew it and syphon it out with one of those manual pumps you can buy for about 6 pounds.

also i think kentish lad is after some ka parts

Just to update I connected a wire from the positive on the battery and wired it to the orange/purple, with the ignition on. Hey presto it was like having my own mini petrol station. Now one empty KA.

Thanks for all help.
