Evo Magazine Feature Pug1Off 205

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

The latest edition of Evo features an MX 5 and a '6'd Pug1off 205, both get favourable reviews.

I'm not into '6 lumps but I'm not convinced by the data claims, but I could be wrong and out of touch.

Worth a look regardless if you are passing a newsagent.

Is this the one that was mentioned in a thread recently and laughable dyno figures?

Sorry, sounds like a double post, oops.

Yes, 195 from cams, exhaust and mani and chipped ECU.

no that's a different one, reasonable figures, certainly not unattainable from that spec.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the engines, although they have become rather over popular and a little too obvious for taste, everyone to their own and all that.

Things are normally popular because they are good. It's not like 205s are exactly prolific when we are speaking in general car terms, let alone those with a GTI-6 conversion!

I agree, popular does not automatically mean bad - although sometimes can. It's just I preffer a less travelled path. This is not ment to be a dig at '5's, it's just not my flavour.

 Of course there's downsides to '6's, like everything. They're not as good as a good Mi IMO.

I'll have to check this out i should already have it, will see if i have to cancel my subscription...

See I'm the opposite. I've had, driven and been in loads of mi's and never felt like there a better engine than a 6.

See, I've got an MI, fresh built and making good power 170bhp, yes it sounds fab on WOT.

But Paul13's Gti-6 powered 205 (which made 160bhp) is all over it mid range.

We had RR figures that said his 6 made something like 20-30lbs more torque iirc from 2k-5500k, that extra grunt is very apparent when in the car, it's as quick with two people as mine is with one.

so whilst the Mi sounds great, the gti-6 is great.

I loved the 'giving it the full Gille Panizzi' comment from Meaden in the article. Very apt.

Both looked lovely cars but I'd rather an S1 Elise/VX220 for the money.
