Mounting Spotlights On 205Gti

Recommended Posts

michael_ozzie

Hello all,

Looking at putting some extra lights in the front of my 205, as I will hopefully get the chance to put it in a couple of twilight races.

Would love to recreate the look of the 80's Super Oscars, with the bracket that allows mounting of spot lights both above and below the front bumper.

My query, is that I don't wish to modify the bumper (drill into it, or cut it), and so the only other option I can forsee is to make a bracket that will be held on where the number plate would be.

Has anyone else achieved this any other way?

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

I'm afraid the only way your able to go the "Retro" spot lamps way is to mount a bracket onto your bumper mate. I did it at the beginning of the year to set up my car for a rally I'll be doing in November.

I had four Cibie Super Oscars, Two long range on top, and two drive beams on the bottom. I wired them up using two circuits both through a relay, with 100 Watt bulbs in each lamp.

This is how it looked.

That look cool! ^

I wouldn't worry about drilling into your bumper, they are only £20 odd to replace and 4bolts to take it off so you could have one for the spots and one for normal day time rallying?

I forgot to take a photo of them the next day, in the light, I only realised after I took the whole lot off.........lol!

Thanks for the replies guys,

Yes TDR, that is exactly the look I would like to achieve. No problem with the wiring, as I work in the electrical industry, but I may have to source another bumper to fit the lights to.

Might not be as cheap as 20 pounds down here in Australia, but no doubt they are out there somewhere.

Just out of curiosity, is the bracket that holds the lights on the bumper home made, or is it an off the shelf product somewhere?

SorrentoMark got some the other day for about £30 from Demon Tweeks. It isn't really worth making your own for that price

Not sure if these were the ones:

Thanks Henry,

Something like that bracket should be pretty good, and the $AU is not too bad at the moment.
