What Material For Solid Fuel Line + Size?

Recommended Posts

allye

I've been running full length rubber fuel lines and was warned it could whiff of petrol a bit, and it did! Also there is always the risk of it being split by a stone etc.

As I'm re-shelling into the XS I thought it would be a good time to change over to solid under the car and up the bulkhead. What material should I use? I don't want to pay for new OE ones and I've read not to use copper as fuels eats it? Is there a stainless item out there that I can bend at home easily?

Can you get away with using the same size for feed and return or do I need a 8mm/10mm ID lines to match the rubber lines from tank and to rail?

Thanks, Ali

i am using 8mm copper or aluminium. Copper is fine for petrol, in fact you will find buying the 8mm LPG pipe the cheapest way of doing it.

I've seen Miles comment a few times that you shouldn't use copper.

I've had copper on mine for five years and it still looks like new.

I've been doing some searching on here as well and it seems most people are happy to use copper, so just ordered some copper lines and P clips! I've ordered 6m so I can run the solid lines up the bulk head and have minimal rubber lines.

No problem with copper for fuel use as it is the standard fit for LPG (liquid petroleum gas). Only problem is that it work hardens, so make sure you secure it well (every 300mm) so there is no where it can flex.

When people say that petrol eats copper lines, surely brake fluid is worse!

nope, brake fluid eats paint, not copper.
