Shunt Box Fuse Blew. 25A?

Recommended Posts

I have had the water warning light on for a while so sourced a sensor for the header tank. I fitted it and the next day i noticed my fan wasn't kicking in. A coincedence i'm presuming. My fan always used to cut in superbly at the same point roughly half way.

Am I right in saying the sensor in the header relays the temperature to the gauge and the light in the middle of the clocks illuminates when the level is supposedly low? And the fan switch in the rad purely is only to activate the fan when it reaches the preset temperature?

I am thinking the changed header tank sensor has nothing to do with if and it is the rad switch or the fan not working.

I had a route around and nothing had come loose, then noticed a 25A fuse in the shunt box was blown. I've just changed it, and tried to use the fan diagnostic plug to activate the fan to test it (neighbours won't appreciate me leaving the car running at this hour for a while and it's penned in down the drive).

I am testing the right plug aren't I?

There are only 2 contacts, and I bridged them but nothing. Perhaps it's the fan, perhaps it's user error! I read that the diagnostic plug had 3 pins?

Going back to the fuse, it is supposed to be two 25A fuses in there? It's been fine for hundreds of miles so why it blew I have no idea! Any ideas?

I think that's the wrong plug, it is a 5 pin plug with only 3 wires from memory, that looks like the fan resistor plug.

Oh. I will have a good route around for another plug tomorrow then. Fan resistor plug - I have never had that plugged in to anything and all has been well (until now, granted)

Don't you bridge the pins in the plug that goes into the fan switch rather than the resistor plug (I've joined those two wires together after reading something on here, right/wrong!?)

Also Dan wierdly my 25 fuse always blows in the shunt box as well! I'm popping up to Peugeot lord Anthony on Saturday though to sort this and a few other things.

Fuse hasn't blown since and all is well again, so will need to keep an eye on it. No idea what caused it to blow though.
