Parts Availability

Will be on the look out for a 205 gti (laser green, hopefully if i can find one) in the near future as soon as I finish my current project. Something needing a bit of cosmetic work etc. One thing i have learnt is how difficult it it to source new parts for cars from the mid 80's to early 90's. Before rushing into anything just checking are exterior parts like mouldings, bumpers, body panels etc still all available from main dealers or are have many parts been discountinued at this stage?

It varies.

Most parts are still available on the whole, although increasingly more and more parts are becoming listed as NFP (none for production) from Peugeot and inevitably they become unavailable not long after. Parts like trims and bumpers are still fairly plentiful secondhand from owners forums and eBay, atleast over here in the UK, but it is fair to say that some parts are becoming very difficult to find now - this is particularly the case with many specific parts for the original Phase 1 models (1983-1987)

Most mechanical parts and consumables are easily available from motorfactors and many are shared with later PSA models too, and by and large prices are actually fairly cheap compared to many other cars (especially non-European)

I think new panels from dealers are becoming more difficult to find (I think I had one of the last quarter panels from pug) Most trim, clips and brackets can still be had from peugeot, or bought easily enough second hand from on here or ebay.

The only part I struggled to get, was the bumper spacer for the front bumper (and that was made in stainless by Tom Fenton on here :) )

I would say having nearly finished my restoration, that there isnt anything (for a phase 2) that is really too difficult to find, as long as you are happy to compromise for second hand things where needed (eg bumpers and arch trims etc)

Thanks for the reply. Are bumpers and arch trims not available new anymore?

Some of the arch trims are unavailable (I cant remember which ones) and I figured new ones would stand out in a mix of old and new, so I waited and found good second hand ones. Bumper may well be available new, but at a serious cost. Again, good second hand ones were fine for me. (look into plasticare if you havent heard of it, its a bumper dye designed to permanently combat faded plastics, really freshens up old bumpers and trims, works really well!)

I've been ordering some parts recently after shedding both front wing trims on the same journey!

Many parts are now unavailable from dealers. Offside front arch trim (phase 2) unavaiable from Peugeot. According to servicebox the nearside is still available, but i've had it ordered for a few weeks and its still not arrived. Second hand will soon be the only option. Good luck.
