Jacking The Vehicle

Recommended Posts

ian010778

Howdy all,

Just wondering if there's a guide anywhere about jacking my 205 up? I've done a search but can't see anything.

I've got a trolley jack and two axle stands but I'm unsure as to exactly where to locate the jack and then where the stands should go (front and rear) to provide the safest option.

Any help appreciated.

Ian.

ps - for those that came, good to meet you at the East Mid's meet last night, it's really given me a shot in the arm to get the car done!

On the front i pick the car up using the subframe and put the stands there too.

On the rear i pick it up with the axle iirc or the boot floor  then stand it on the axle..

The sills are week as s*it by the looks of them.

There is jacking points on the sills, but be careful jacking there, make sure the jack can roll if a trolley jack as they can bend easily and damage the underseal.

Generally i use the front subframe and rear beam tube, axle stand can be placed under the sills easily enough.

I think most people jack up the rear with the beam and as said subframe at the front.

Cheers for this - all clear now (I did search... promise)

I jack up the front on the subframe and then put axle stands user the chassis rail section. I even go to the extent of keeping an old J cloth in the end of the axle stand so when I place it there I can use it to cushion the rail and prevent it marking the paint. Completely anal, but takes 2 seconds and is a habit I got in to.

Bother trolley jacks (3 tonne) I use don't fit under my car  so have to use a scissor jack first then get the trolley in. I too use the subframe and beam tube.

I also read some where its not advised to have the car on 4 axle stands, is this true? I always leave the wheels under the sills as well as a fail safe.

i dont think its adviseable with the complete weight of the car on four wobbly axle stands no.

i had my bare shell up on four stands for some time stripping the underseal off and it was ok.

I used to have to do this on my coilovered Cup. Then I bought an aluminium low entry jack and it's great. A few pumps and the car is a foot off the ground.

Fixed that for you ;)

Ditto on driving on to a couple of blocks of wood - I've got a couple with a sloping edge that I keep for this.
