205Gti 1.6 Vs Vauxhall Vectra Vxr

Recommended Posts

Right. So im on the way home from the pub after a nice social meet with pals. On the way home i encountered my neighbour who ive never spoke to in his Vectra VXR. He thumbs up'd me on the roundabout. So i bit the bait. He was unable to shake me and i had to keep tapping the brake not to crash into him. Turns Out hes running 220bhp. And was 100% positive that i had the 1.9 or a engine conversion. So now ive got the biggest grin on my face! Anyone else has one of these encounters?

Vectra VXR (2005–09)

The Vectra VXR was available in both hatchback and estate versions, fitted with 2.8i 24v V6 turbo engine and was based on the Opel Vectra OPC. Originally launched in December 2005, it produced 252 bhp (188 kW; 255 PS)[8] and after the 2007 facelift the output increased to 276 bhp (206 kW; 280 PS).

If it was a real VXR, trying, it would annihilate you. Sorry to piss on your party but come on....

My car just about pulls the skin off of rice pudding, on comparison to yours. Its about 165bhp. I kept up with, and pushed a vxr astra which had been played with a tad, much to his disappointment when i told him mines a 1.6 8v, and only 100bhp ish (cheeky smug smile :) )

Not called a VXR they didn't.

Link me to any Vectra VXR with 217bhp.

Who said you were lying? But it is easy to go on inaccurate 2nd hand information.

Didnt sound like a tractor! Maybe he is lying! To hide the fact his 230/240bhp car is poo compared to the mighty 205

Easy to work it out. What reg is it? Could be Sri or Gsi. Or more likely a 1.9CDti Envoy with a VXR badge :D

I drive a lot of standard engined 205 GTI's. They are in comparison to most modern cars of today, of 1800cc or more, slow in a straight line. I have had a do with an Astra VXR and kept up, but my 205 has over 200bhp and over 200 ftlb of torque. In my other 205 which is standard 1600 I would expect to get left for dead.

It wasnt quite a straight line. It was more a bendy road off of a round about. So i found out these things are uber heavy and handle like s*it so maybe he kept bottling it?

What did clarkson say? Something like the worst chassis he has ever come across in a vectra!

Im sorry but i have to join in with the bandwagon.. what youve put dosent sound right ie the power outputs nor does a 1600 or even a 1900 putting a vxr in its place..

I get what ur all saying. It sounds like a crock of poo. I didnt say i pulled any lengths on him. I simply said i gave him a good run im not sure what it is but it looked like a vectra vxr! As i said ill ask him again when i see him

Why pretend? Stick it in 6th and see what happens.

A Toyota Yaris courtesy car can go into "6th" at 40mph if you pull the lever hard enough. So I've been told.

They make a fair bit of noise doing it, mind, and probably not a good idea to lift the clutch up either.

Ran a Vectra 150 diesel for about 100k and sorry but in most circumstances it would leave a std 8v 1.6 for dead once up & running and on anything other than truly twisty 205 territory it would continue to do so. Chassis wasn't that bad either unless you were trying to emulate an Evo journalist!
