Insurance Whinge Of The Week (Conning Bastards)

Ring them back and tell them the Volvo is going to be lowered before you change the policy over.

It's common to find that a standard car on their modified policies is more expensive, and the more you declare modification wise, the cheaper it becomes.

I was with them for a few years as they were generally good for modified cars, for a young driver with points.

Now, I prefer to pay a few quid more and get cover through companies that are more competent over all in the event of a claim and what not. I actually renew with flux last year on one of my vehicles as a last minute panic when I got back from holiday and had a day left to renew as found other quotes more expensive. The following weekend when i had time to sit and trawl insurers, I found admiral offered the same cover with modifications for about £20 more, yet excesses were less and mileage allowance was more as standard. I cancelled under the cooling off period and chose to pay the £60 odd cancellation fee in order to change to a more competent policy. I had heard so many bad stories about flux and their service in the event of a claim, so when paying a large amount for a piece of A4, what's the extra few quid for actual decent cover in the event of needing to actually use it.

I was with Flux when I had my claim on the Saab in Nov 2010. Although the overall experience was less painful than it is for many (as no other drivers were involved), I still found I had to do most of the donkey work myself. I was dealing directly with the underwriter for 95% of the time.

I find flux really good, been with them for a couple years now. This renewal I had a few changes to my policy, main one being that I've now got 6 points on my license. I'm 22 and drive a 200SX with all the usual performance mods done to it, a claim and 6 points. My renewal price was £775 which I think is bloody good considering my age and driving history.

And that perfectly illustrates how utterly retarded and unfair insurance can be.

Comparing us, the only significant thing that I can see of being any substantial difference is location.

But to put that in to perspective I was quoted about £700 by flux the other week for a Saab 9-3 with about 270bhp, I'm 33, had my license for 13/14 years, full NCB, license is clean, had one claim for £1700 in late 2010, and the policy was limited to 3000 miles with the car being kept overnight in a secure underground carpark. and then there's my standard Volvo at £630 limited to 5000 miles per year. That you are paying only £150 more for a 200sx at your age with 6 points is just crazy!

Yeah, is rediculous.

I was quoted £176 FC at 25 for my 205 GTi6 with agreed valuation and engine, brakes etc declared. Was a limited mileage policy at 2000 miles, but still great value for someone with 6 points (3 recently expired but still within the 5 year period of notification).

I couldn't wait until my 25th so paid a few hundred more elsewhere to have it started a few months eariler. And guess what, I did minimal mileage in the few months I wasn't prepared to wait

Still thought it was cheap at the £400 odd so just paid it and was able to get the use out the thing.

I had the same experience with flux, as soon as there is a claim mentioned they pretty much refuse to speak to you whatsoever.

And my claim from november 2009 has still not been settled (as to whether thats their responsibility i have no idea)

Good to know I'm not alone in being shafted by insurance companies. I'm really pissed off with my insurance company... I separated from my wife back in December just after taking out a new policy. Moved house, e-mailed the insurance company all the documents they required (kept my wife on the policy as a second driver so she can use my car while she gets hers done on the MOT). For about a month I kept getting reminders to send the documents in (despite e-mailing them) and they kept sending the stuff to my old address. This evening I picked up some post from my wife and found a letter from the insurance company. Supposidly they hadn't got a payment and had cancelled my policy. Didn't have any e-mails or phone calls to pre-warn me, just this letter to the wrong address. I'm going to call the finance company tomorrow as they're after £100 off me, what I find interesting is that I haven't missed any payments (both my bank accounts have been well in credit).

I called up, got shoved around different people for 15 mins and was then told I would have to take out a new policy. So I did, with a different insurance company. B******s the lot of them!

On a positive note I did save a little bit on what I was previously paying, but had to fork out another £140 to start a new policy which has screwed me up for the month.

Rob
