What Tyres Are You Using?

Recommended Posts

gavbrum

Got a nice refurbished set of 1.9 wheels that I need tyres for in the next month. I've had Toyo Proxes in the past and they seemed fine, just wondering what everyone else is using.

Dunno if it's worth creating a poll.

Theres often a lot of talk of tyres, i find that Uniroyal rainsport2's are a good balance of price and grip. Michelin Pilot exalto 2's are also highly rated but i am yet to use them - will be trying some when the uniroyals wear out. I found that toyo proxes weren't all that grippy when i had them on the xsara and steer clear of Michelin energy E3A's - but they are more for economy anyway. If you do a quick search you will find lots of tyre talk from the past on here.

Loads of threads on the subject if you do a search - Falken 912's and Hankook S1 Evo's get my personal vote.

Of course, that said, my 205 is still currently wearing comedy P6000's. Brave or exceedingly foolhardy... you decide

at the moment, Michelin Alpin A3 on the front, Pilot Exalto on the back, will be on PE2's as soon as it warms up a bit more.

Energy's are great, just not a performance tyre

True, in terms of wear rate/economy Michelin Energys are very very good, but as you say very much not a performance tyre, the sidewall flex was unreal! But then i did get a set of four in 195/55/15 brand new for £98. :P

I guess I'll be the same as most looking for a good compromise between performance/wear/value for money.

Two of them were on the front of the Xsara when i sold it but I still have two of them left in my garage, i'll let them go for £40 each collected if you like (yes that is more than i paid, but its still less than half of retail).

Ive had uniroyal rainsport2s for a while. Cheap for a decent tyre. Does suprisingly grip abit better then most in the wet! But for dry summer cant beat R888

Very happy with Hankook S1 Evo, I would say as good as Michelin Exaltos but with harder sidewalls which is perfect if you ever decide to track it.

Hero Milanza HZ-1 , and they're completely s***!!, they're loud, worthless if you want some sporty driving, and wears off fast.

The only positive thing I can think of them is that they grip nicely on the wet, and they're cheap.

i'm on a set of 16's 206gti alloy and run bridgestone poteza re050a's they seem fine to my now after some hairy moments when i first got them ( it was bloody cold at the time and they are a summer tyre)

Avon Ice Touring. Turn in is a bit vague compared to a summer tyre and they had a very long scrub-on period - otherwise I'm pleased with them.

I've got Toyo Proxie T1-R's and I find the sidewalls flex quite a lot on them.

they do it felt like the front was trying to role the tyres off the rims at times, the potenza's are a lot stiffer on the sidewall they feel ok to me now, reading the reviews on the tyres you'd expect them to be utter crap in the winter on snow etc but i found them ok on the 205 if i'm honest, best tyre i had and again in a 16 were p zero nero's but again not to everyone's taste

Exactly this. It's very unnerving at speed.

I had Nankangs on my old Pepperpots and the 60 profile sidewall movement was epic.

The Bridgstone Petenza's on my comps where very good, would definatly recommend

no where near as bad as yoko pradas (or whatever they are called), i managed to wear the writing off the sidewall where they were folding over on a trackday. i have got toyo R1R's on my 205 now which are a good tyre inbetween t1r's and 888's. side walls are a lot firmer than the yoko's.

Some good healthy debate on this. I'm swinging towards the Falcon's.

Uniroyal rainsports!!! I har proxes also and the rainsports did an extra 5k on the front... work better in the wet! Just a great all round tyre. Will be getting some for mine when I get 15s :-)

I've been using the T1-R's on mine for the last couple of years and havn't had any problems with them in the dry or wet. My Saxo VTS track project is currently running on Yoko S-Drives which seem to offer great grip in the dry.

I have used the Michelin Pilot Exalto's in the past on an Escort RS Turbo i owned before the 205, and found they were pretty decent on that car.
