Mot'ing A Car With Fixed Seats.

Recommended Posts

As title really, with the new MOT rules the seats need to have adjustment, 3 separate position or something. Now I've got the bucket seats bolted in place to the floor I'm slightly worried they will fail it for it, I have a very good relationship with the garage so that may help.

Worse thing that can happen is that I'll have to pop the old front seats back in for a day, any one else MOT'd a car with fixed seats yet?

Cheers, Ali

new rules don;t come in until the end of the month at the earliest, They are still working things out and as I said to my MOT man Rally car's don;t have ABS, Airbag's Adjustable seats or Steering locks and the other thing if wiring is not std it can fail again so any engine mod in theory can fail

I'd not worry, Christ my Car has had ABS, Cat, Airbag, Std Seats all removed and no wiring is std, Think that's why the date keeps changing

No rush for the box just let me know, Thank you

Did it Monday with no issue at all. A lot of cars like this you cannot get the standard front seats back in at all.

It'll be another of those fads that ultimately comes down to the tester i guess, but they can just put things like this in the notes box, eg. 'Rear seats not tested as not fitted' etc.

Was reading about this recently in a car mag.Like you say it may come down to the individual tester and whether he deems something to be downright dangerous.I'm not likely to be in a position to get mine tested until mid april at the earliest,i'll keep you posted as to whether there's a sudden hardening of the rules and regs.

I don't think it is worth getting too worried if any alterations are done properly. For example. A well made wiring mod that is clipped and sleeved etc is not going to be any issue. Conversely an unfused live to some chav lights run in domestic twin and earth that is rubbing on the cambelt ought to be a failure, but if I am right the MOT man can only advise before the changes.

I saw a car the other day with some flex being used in the engine bay. The mind boggles.

When I had an MOT a few weeks ago I was speaking to the tester and he did say that they changes are 'in effect' but will only be marked as an advisory right now, and not a fail until April.
