Battery Relocation

Recommended Posts

Gavin Waddell

Been wanting to relocate my battery to the boot now for a while, to gain spac in the engine bay and move weigh to the rear of the car. Wad wondering how other people have done it, my maim concern is fixing the battery so it dose move about in am accident. I have seem some one cut a hole in the boot floor and dit it there, bit does the spare wheel still fit?

I got a box in the boot bolted to the floor on all four corners, the battery wedges in and doesn't move about..

Great little mod for space!

Also good if you have amps and things in the boot that you want to power up...

I have seen that people run fuses through the cable back to the front, but not sure on what fuse to use or what size cable to run through the car.....??

I certainly wouldn't advise cutting a hole in the boot floor! There isn't space for a start, you're encouraging rust and seriously limiting your ability to sell the car afterwards. If it's a dedicated track car then get a lightweight gel battery behind the passenger seat, otherwise don't bother.

What's wrong with a box in the boot in your opinion?

A box in the boot - nothing.

A box in a hole cut in the boot floor - everything.

O sorry I thought you disapproved of both.

Yeah I agree about the hole, you'd either hit the spare or the exhaust..

I was thinkinh more along the lines of fabricating a box out of steel and then weldinding it in Place like on a mini?

Think of the weight you're adding by doing that though.

engine killer

a re-sealable box such as a camera store box can do. i have a hose connected to it and routed down to sparewheel well to release any vapour from battery.

you may also need a terminal inside engine bay.

The battery i a placed insteed of the sparewheel. Welded a rail on it. And put the redtop battery in a RVS box, with a good isolated (!!!) cover on it.

That looks like it came out of a e36, given the positive terminal ;)
