Crap Car Of The Day

Recommended Posts

harryskid

The one i saw to day was a Datsun 100 cherry being proudly driven  at a snails pace. It was once blue but now the front wings are a faded red oxide with big rust spots. The skinney little wheels are tatty with dogey looking tryes and the rear bumper was full of rust holes. These cars were crap when they first came over here and look even more crap now. I'am amazed the thing is still on the road, he must have a blind mot bloke  . No wonder Datsun changed their name to Nissan hut

Fair play to them.

Frankly, I for one am warmed by the fact that there's people still using cars that most of society would have long since consigned to the scrapyard to buy some bland Eurobox on credit. The fact that you noticed it in amongst the sea of resale silver VAG diesels says it all - it's different, and frankly, that's great.

If the owner is proud of it then so much the better.

I have no doubt that most people look at my 205 and think of it just as you did that Datsun, and you know what - I don't care one iota :D

Local to me there is an original Honda Civic on a W plate in red, frankly I am amazed as my parents had an Accord and that just rotted away after about ten years. Occasionally I get to see a Mk1 GTE.

someone else on some datsun forum is writing

today i was driving down the road at the legal speed limit when this a@@e in a old 205 gti came flying past me i was really surprised that it was still on the road and even more surprised that nothing fell of it as he passed me.i caught him up at the next set of traffic lights and was amazed that his car was ticking over between 200 revs and 2000 while my car sat steady at 500 revs.

I would own any datsun given the chance at correct money loads about in NZ and have a huge following

Had an 07 Passat Tdi for 6 months in 2008 - dreadful dreadful car, electric handbrake just summed it up for me

F*ck modern TDi's :D

When i was 17 -21 if it wasnt a 205 it was crap, but now gladly iv seen the light,iv got respect for anyone that keeps an old car going and doesnt just scrap it to become boring and drive a modern car with no soul. There is a B reg metro local to me and every time i see it it always catches my eye,any old car still on the road now has earned my respect,id love to see the wonderful VAG still on the road in 20 years plus time

Nice vehicles, smart, great fuel economy, but christ theyre dear when they break.Too much to go wrong.

I like seeing something different too, even if it is a little bit of a shed. He was probably minted, most wealthy people i've met drive sheds.

Electric hand brake stuick on in a garage forecourt once and after 10 minutes of trying to get it to turn off I resprted to getting my foot up and kicking the hell out of it.

Didn't work and it just came off with anotehr doxzen prods of teh button.

Nothing wrong with old sheds, normally most reliable :P

my daily 205 diesel, Its dented covered in mud, bits falling of inside and out, (get pulled every few months as is doesnt look roadworthy lol) but it starts every morning, passes every mot, does 50+ mpg and owes me nothing. Goes anywhere and takes soo much abuse and with the boost turned up goes well and makes me smile.

nothing worse than these modern euro boxes, dull, cheap and boring to drive. Deffinatly not worth getting in debt to own plus worse for the environment as they take an old car out of the system that has allready made its carbon footprint being built.

Well you won't like this but for the record, i thought the 205 forum was about people looking after old cars not abusing them ! None of you saw the old datsun i was reffering to but you all went on the defence of some thing none of you saw. I disagree with Anthoney its not fair play to drive around in a death trap. The car i followed was puffing out oil fumes every where, had rust holes that would not probely pass an mot and heaven forbid if any one got hit by those rusty holed metal bumpers. This was not a classic car,nor a persons love for old cars as you all stated, it was and old rust bucket which may not even be road legal and should have been scraped years ago. Of course some of you will still disagree but do your cars look like what i have discribed, if they do then its a poor reflection on your selves. I have nothing against old cars ,most are better then moden ones but there are old looked after ones and as i have discribed chav crap. So its still Crap car of the day.

I too love seeing older cars, the stranger the better!

There is currently a reliant robin parked on the road by my house and someone who regularly visits a house down the road drives a Citroen Dyane. The drivers of both cars look about 100 years old but it cheers me up to see them being driven, especially when I think there's quite a high chance both have owned them from brand new!

Yes but the difference is they are most likely looked after !

It could be worse, research the isle of man mot and tax rules.... one test when the vehicle comes onto the island and as long as it's taxed it never needs to be checked again, you should see some of the vehicles over there, we had a van borrowed to us and you could see through the floor to the road :D gave an immense feeling of speed, seriously though don't bash another car on looks, it could be rusty and a bit battered but it's someone's transport and just maybe they are doing the best they can to keep it on the road mechanically

If I take any of the 205s to work they are by far and away the oldest cars in the carpark. I think the next eldest is an R reg Corolla. I get the occasional good comment, and the occasional complaint if the G reg ones leaves a puddle of oil!!

But you've all missed the point haven't you! Harry's original post was not that the car was old (there are still plenty of old cars around) nor was it that the car was a Datsun (even if Harry thinks they are crap) nor was it the fact that it was an old Datsun, it was the fact that in Harry's view it appeared to be unfit for the road! I hope very much that it was road legal and not as Harry thought, a rolling death trap. As Anulfo said 'Long live the Datsun Cherry' as long as its road legal!
