Cam Shafts

Be for i take whats left of my old knackerd 1900 8v rally engine to the scrappy i might like to rescue the cam shaft. When i bought the car the guy selling it told me it had a competion cam shaft in it , mind you he was a lying sod about a lot of things on the car. Is there any way of identifing which camshaft is which ?

Most aftermarket camshafts have something engraved/stamped on the end of the camshaft, normally the dizzy end.

 

For example, a Kent Cams PT36 camshaft is stamped KC PT 36

there should be some markings on it, usually where the pulley fits
