Cheap Wishbones

Recommended Posts

Miles

Posted this on a couple of pages, Not too sure if it should be in General or suspension but it's more of warning than anything else,

Had this on a customers 306, Not even 6 months old (Replaced by MOT garage), Was hanging on by a thread when removed, scary thing was he drove to me from Southampton on the motorway so lucky is not the word

So if you have the El cheap'o' riveted wishbones on your 306 check them

Was it rusted and this happened or just bad quality?

Surely the company that makes them should be made aware of this / forced to stop selling them!

I doubt that would happen I'm afraid, I would guess allot of these are just branded and sold as 'X'

But at the price they are you cannot expect much, Like allot of cheap parts some even are rubbish out of the box, a Brand with 'Tech' in the name sold by a French car parts supplier I've had wheel bearings noisy out of the box and dust covers perish within 6 months

But one thing I will say the P bush rubber is still OK as is the ball joint

That's shocking, my 306 has done 160k+ & is still on the original wishbones afaik.

If it ever needs one I'll get it from motoaquip or just replace the bushes assuming they are whats needed.

I know the quality of pattern parts has gradually become worse in recent years but that is simply amazing, at least its still under warrenty if it was bought new by the garage who fitted it.
