New Car - Bmw 328I Sport.....

Recommended Posts

NeilGTi85

Evening,

I was getting abit bored and tired of driving a Subaru around as a daily.....too noisy, not really comfortable etc..

Saw this going pretty cheap and took a chance as I've never owned a BMW & I have to say I'm very impressed!

Picture002-1.jpg

Anyone else owned / got one similar?

The BBS split rims need a refurb thats about the only thing wrong!

Full BMW service history, loads of reciets & 85K :)

Never had one, but they are nice, yours looks tidy! Has it got a slipper?

When you say slipper I presume you mean LSD, tbh i'm not sure yet.

I know some come with an open diff and some dont, I'm going to BMW tommorow to find out the specs and paint code etc...

I prefer the looks of the E36 to the E46, even though the E46 is supposed to be the better car.

I love these, a mate of mine had one a few years ago (god about 8years ago!) exactly the same look as yours.

Fantastic car, he replaced it with an M3 convertible Evo and in the real world (ie, not double the national speed limit) the 328i sport was a much quicker and more enjoyable car.

Enjoy it :D

Nice....

As far as I know, if it's a proper Sport then it should have the slippy diff (does it have the traction control button by the gearstick?). A mate had one many years ago when they were newish, and I was even considering one recently. Easy to get a few gains too, the inlet is off a 320 to comply with German laws so ditch it for a 325 manifold. With a remap/chip, you'll see the good side of 200bhp.

Watch for rot in the rear arch lips.

Off-topic but that's the car I'm looking at getting over a 328! A 330 coupe with all the toys.

It's a facelift so won't have a slipper, has tcs instead..

was gona say mine didnt have tcs.

Further along the line of tuning the US spec 3.0 M3 cams, bigger throttle body, exhaust manifold. Is possible to get a 250hp with bolt on parts!

Replace anything rubber, rear bushes are prone to cause bump steer and prop coupling donuts are always fecked. Faulty vanos can be a pain in the arse and check the wires that run boot lid (left side) if they always split this cause serious issues.

The cooling system should be kept in A1 condition (water pump) and the system should be bled with the front of the car elevated as bmw heads can trap air worse than an ill fitted condom. ^_^

Off topic again...

Yep i'd recommend one if your thinking about it. This one was the M-sport 330 coupe, all the extras etc. The semi auto box was pretty good too (as they go)

need a few bolts on mods and some time spent with live mapping to see 240hp.

As for the 328 being a "better, faster car around town" is rubbish.... thats what the people who cannot afford an m3 say....

It is a proper sport, found out today its an open dif....it does have a Traction Control option.

Its been chipped and is currently running over 200bhp.

There is no rust anywhere!

Will defently be over in the summer, you still got a 205? I thought you sold your white Mi? Is UKM still running?

I went to see a 330Ci Sport, was very nice but twice the price!

Most of the bushes have been replaced and the vanos is working properly.

I was told to make sure the cooling system was in good nick, when I took it for a test drive a low coolent light popped up at start-up then went away after 30 secs. I turned out to be a faulty level sensor :) Glad you told me about elevating the front though as I'm about to bleed it !

 I did not test an M3 so I cant comment.....but im sure the M3 would be better!

Will take some more pics at the weekend and update this thread

You want to check if you have a plastic impeller water pump as they're a nightmare.

Cheap swop for a metal jobbie and could save you breaking down..

Well he had an M3 after and although a faster car on the right road there arent many roads where you can truly open one up, not enjoyably anyway

Very Nice. I own a 2003 e46 325i sport, Brought it just over three years with only 15000 miles on the clock and what a car it is the clock is reading 26000 now and it should last me a while till I turn 30 then moving on to a M5 and when I get to my 40th I will finish with a 7 series. :D

I used to own a 328ci, e46 but still the same engine and running gear as e36 one, i hated the diff in mine. It did not want to go sideways, at the same time one of my mates had an e36 325i (same power) and when i was driving his i could get it sideways no problem. May have been that the 46 was less tail happy as a car but the diffs were definately different because mine would pull the shy side of 140 in 4th and my mates 325 was no where near that and i'm sure they shared the same box.

But definately change the inlet manifold from an M52 to and M50 one, I've had them both infront of me to compare and you wouldn't believe how restricted they are. You can see 220bhp with the manifold and a map. There's people on the bm forums that sell a kit for it.

E36 328 uses the m52

E36 325 uses the m50

E46 328 uses the m54

all different engines..

Agreed on the m50 inlet but you need a pre modified one as its not a straight forward swop and can cause countless air leaks, if you go onto e36coupe a member called Iian (alpina527) makes a bolt on kit and its a peice of art.

It's sublime :-)

That looks a nice sport, lovely colour. I also have a 97 328 sport in black, owned it for around 7 years now aswell as my mi16. I will get some pics up later on. As others have said make sure the cooling system is in good condition, as any overheating is not good for theses motors as they dont like headgasket replacements.

If you log into E36coupe.com there a wealth of info and nice lads.
