Gti Back Box On Xs

Recommended Posts

enduro

Hi, as title really does anyone have any experience of fitting a gti back box to an xs, its one i've been offered its gen pug and its very very cheap! it has the olive fitting as does my xs one and i can see from service box uses the same clamp around the olive so must be matching sizes. and if anyone has done this, any pro's / cons?

yes, do it! the gti's have a straight through back box (no internal restictions) but also had a smaller silencer further forwards

i have no front silencer on my xs, just a gti back box and i think it sounds great !( if perhaps a little on the loud side.............................................).sounds great at 7000 rpm though

and its gone through the last 2 MOT's with it on

is it a direct replacement / straight fit though? i also have the straight through centre pipe with olive fitting for the back box, the gti box i've been offered is also olive fitting.

yes, there are two different gti back boxes, i think its the later one that has a different fitting (just a normal push on pipe fitting with a normal exhaust clamp) if it has the same fitting as your xs exhaust then it fits straight on, the mountings are the same as well.

i even tried a diesel back box on mine for a while, but the gti one sounds much better and seems to liberate more power at high revs..........

Early GTi systems were the sleeve-fit types, 89-onwards cars used the olive type.

My endurance-spec Rallye has just a GTi rear box. Sounds pleasant and not overly loud - IIRC it was around 85db on the noise meter at the last event we did - a lot better than the Escort which always struggles with the 98db limit!

I'd say go for it, don't think you'll be disappointed :)

If the oem box fits, that means you can fit aftermarket gti backboxes to base models like the XS..
