Distributor Signal Cable

Recommended Posts

So now that I have my nice shiney new VAC advance unit on my distributor and fitted to the car I thought I'd take alook at my spare unit. I noticed that the signal cable was in a pretty poor state the other day but I didn't realise how bad, the red wire was hanging on by a single strand of wire. I have managed to remove the 2 small lucar connectors from the plug at the dizzy end and will resolder or crimp the 2 wires. I can see that there is a braided section to the wire and at the ignition amplifier end the yellow plug has 3 connectors inside (which is in good condition). Should the braid wire be connecting to anything?

I don't think its connected at the dizzy end, that cable is the predecessor to the crank sensor and does much the same job

I think it acts as a shield wire, so therefore isnt connected to anything at the dizzy end? I may be wrong, but I didnt some research into that cable when I was looking to replace mine last month

Ideal thanks chaps. It doesn't look like it should be connected anywhere to be fair.

Thanks
