Charging Issues

Recommended Posts

My poor little two-oh has been off the road for two years. I finally got round to it and dragged it out of the field and ran her up.

The alternator at this point was putting out nothing and no battery light was illuminating on the dash. I replaced the diode pack with no joy so replaced the alternator.

all seemed well, she went through MOT with no big issues. after two or three days running, the battery light failed to illuminate when the ignition was turned on and now I'm getting no charge again.

has anyone got any theories on why this is happening? is it likely I've got a dodgy alternator?

I have checked the brown wire that runs to the alternator, it illuminates the battery light when earthed therefore the car side of the wiring seems ok (I think???)

Put a volt meter on the battery term on alternator and the body of alternator to test it if you bought a cheap one from motor factors it's more than likely that

Many thanks, it was indeed a duff alternator, popped it off in my lunch hour and exchanged it for one that works (touches wood). so far it's been ok.
