Mi16 Problem, Wont Start

Recommended Posts

RalliArt

So, for about an year and a half, I'm running a 205 with Mi16 on twin carbs, but now i decided to switch to std Motronic ML4.1 bought a GTI6 inlet manifold, which i modified with Mi16 TPS and no ISCV. I think i've got every think right, but no starting...

But here what wonders me, there IS spark on the plugs, speaking of which is good and strong on really working plugs, tested injectors I even took them out with the rail on 4 measuring vessels and try starting to see how they really work, well every think looks ok, but why the HELL she doesn't want to start. I'm out of ideas can some body help me?

P.S. Wondering can this be a problem, my MI16 is running with a 1.9 8V crankshaft from 405 D6A engine, possible different position of the flywheel??? that's only idea on my mind....

flywheel wont be in the wrong place has it has a dowel to locate it, all XU+XUD have them in the same place.

have you confirmed plug leads are in correct order not forgetting #1 is at flywheel end.

Yes, they are correct, 1-3-4-2 also leading from a picture from the forum on which is shown the correct order leadsorder.jpg

Does it try to start but not catch, or does it just spin over on the starter and do nothing?

I've seen two different causes for non starting Mi16s that have correct fuel/spark/compression. The first is an AFM the wrong way round, it acts as a one way valve and blocks the inlet. The second is a faulty starter motor that generates a lot of electrical noise and interferes with the ECU.

So still no signs of life... today tried another AFM which looks like a brand new.... And same thing.... nothing.... But not loosing hope i will find the missing part from the puzzle... Cheers

What injectors have you in manifold the 306 one won't work with that ecu? They need to be older ones like mi or 205

Ok some update, the end of this topic, so the car has started and all ready has been driven since then, it appears that i have chosen a 12V supply(which has to be ignition "ON" only) to the ignition module which disappears on "starter" but the most stupid think is the the 12V on the rpm counter in a strange way engages the coil and the ign.module together and produces spark that's with "god knows only" timing... So now the car is running very well...

Once again thank you for you time and attention.
