1.9 Hub Carrier Part Numbers

Recommended Posts

Can anyone confirm that the correct part number for a left hand hub carrier (aka swivel pin) for a 1.9L GTI is 364645, with 364745 being the right hand item?

I'm about to order one in, but want to make sure it's not a 1.6L item as I can't return it... Got the oval problem, and can't find a decent second hand hub. Tried talking to my usual machinist about getting mine sleeved and he wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

Thanks in advance! :)

Thanks welsh pug :)

A dealer in the UK offered a better price than that, with very reasonable shipping! I'll offer my old one for sale once I've changed them over :)

OK, so my new hub carrier arrived today....and it doesn't look like the right part :( :(

It's got an ABS sensor mounting and is hollow!!! While I haven't attempted to fit it, I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable mix n' matching hollow and solid hub carriers.....

The receipt from the dealer clearly states that the part number is 364645, so either this number is incorrect, or they sent me the wrong part. I checked on servicebox with my VIN, and 364645 is listed as the correct part.

Any ideas? I'll post up some photos.

Here's some photos- I've never seen a hub carrier so clean and shiny! The casting hole made me think it was a 405 item as it looks like the one on our diesel, but it's got the 205 style balljoint pincher rather than the screw in balljoint. Any ideas if this is p/n 364645 or something totally different??

For reference, the inner diameter of the wheelbearing seat is around 82mm.

looks fine tbh, that's the later type of construction they used on all hubs though I didn't know they had made 205 hubs like that, you need to check the inclination of the strut clamp to confirm that its a 205 item, also check that the balljoint clamp is 16mm.

the hollow hub carriers are stronger though no lighter.

having an ABS hole isn't an issue, you don't have to use it

That's a relief! :) I was expecting this one to be lighter than the solid ones. Can't wait to get it fitted now!! (said as he wonders if they have a matching right hand one and can get his hands on an ABS setup from the wreckers....... )

205;

3646 20 01

LEFT
- INJECTION XU9JA
- EXCEPT WITH ABS BRAKES

3647 20 01
RIGHT
- INJECTION XU9JA
- EXCEPT WITH ABS BRAKES

309;

3646 20 01
LEFT
- CARBURETTOR Y2
- CARBURETTOR J2
- XU EXCEPT WITH ABS BRAKES
- TU UP TO MOD 1990

3647 20 01

RIGHT
- CARBURETTOR Y2
- CARBURETTOR J2
- XU EXCEPT WITH ABS BRAKES
- TU UP TO MOD 1990

Strictly speaking, not exactly the same.

Looking at the parts cd, the 3646.20 is for non-abs so if you can get them, it wouldn't have the hole as in the pictures above but other than that, it appears to be the original non-ABS stub pivot part number for both the 205 1,9 GTI & quite a few 309's.

I would imagine it has been superseeded by the .45 part if you were to look for new items, same casting as 306 though machined at a different angle

Type-R

Off the shelf wishbones with an 18mm ball joint would be useful at this point

Not really, as the 18mm 306 uprights are the wrong geometry for a 205.
