V6 In A 205

Recommended Posts

craig_007

How common is this ?

As some of you might be aware I tried to sell my throttle bodied 205 but decided against, I do however fancy something away from the ITB hard revving Mi for something with a more sedate power band.

Is there many 205 V6's about and if so how would this fair next too a 200bhp MI lump. I assume the engine will be alot lazier therefore not so "ballsout" everytime I jump in the car.

If anyone has one and fancies a change to the above car, Give me a shout.

I wouldn't call them particularly lazy

in a straight drag it would beat a 200 bhp MI16, they have nigh on 200 lbft.

Anthony

It's VERY different in character to a cammed Mi on 'bodies.

The delivery isn't so much lazy as effortless - foot down any gear, any revs and it just goes... and goes... and goes.

I'll reserve judgement on handling, but the one I drove did feel very nose heavy and reluctant to turn in, but it did have a base model beam and standard non-PAS rack which wouldn't help matters one iota.

Yeah that was what I meant, More effortless power compared with the Mi.

Anthony, handling is vastly better , turn in is 100% better and we haven't finished yet :D You will be having a comparison drive in it later this year to put your mind at rest :)

Craig it is a very different beast, and as said , effortless and doesn't rely on power bands and cam delivery as it has it throughout the rev range and in any gear.

It is a pity you aren't closer, I am always happy to let people experience it.

The 309 I done had or has all std suspension on it, the engine feels at home and no worse than a GTi6 engine for example, yes the 309 is longer and the engine fit's a hole lot better thou,

As said performance would leave a TB's mi for sure, even with 220bhp, you'll see well in excess of 150mph too if your in Germany of course

my mate had a V6 corsa B, power thoughout all the gears he could actually put it in 5th and it would drag you down the road at 30mph on the clutch... straight line speeds where immense in any gear going fast, handling wasnt great though it would understeer in the corners due to the weight of the engine, probly better conversion on a track car rather than a road car.

Evently he put a 1.6VXR engine in..

Quick video of it on the dyno if anyone if intrested (with the VXR engine)

handling of the corsa isnt best anyway  so sticking a hefty iron v6 out front is hardly going to improve things, C25XE was a little underpowered too.

Not really comparing apples to apples, but that broad spread of torque is one of the (very few) things I enjoy about my 3.0 V6 166. It's not a particulary rampant engine in the 166 as it's a lot of car to haul, but I often pull away in 1st and then change straight in to 6th. It'll pootle along at 20mph in 6th, and you can still accelerate from there with no pinking etc. In a substantially lighter car it would be mental. I've not driven a Peugeot V6, and I know they are a little less pokey, but I'd imagine they must deliver a fairly similar driving experience.

How common is this ? Not common at all. There are only around a dozen known conversions. Some didn't complete, some didn't do it properly. Only around half a dozen completed and fully functional v6 conversions. At present that figure seems to be lower for actual cars running on the road.

As some of you might be aware I tried to sell my throttle bodied 205 but decided against, I do however fancy something away from the ITB hard revving Mi for something with a more sedate power band.

Is there many 205 V6's about and if so how would this fair next too a 200bhp MI lump. From my research and knowledge there are up to five running cars, with three or four more mid project. Compared to a 200bhp Mi 205 it would beat it with ease.It is the spread of torque that decides that not the bhp figure.

I assume the engine will be alot lazier therefore not so "ballsout" everytime I jump in the car. No that is an urban myth. It has so little weight to shove, that in a 205 the car rockets round to the redline, if you so wish to drive it that way. But if you want to be in 4th or 5th and go from 60mph to 120mph in a few seconds, it will do this with ease, but crazy as this sounds, it will also go from 100mph to off the clock just as fast. (please note I tested this on my trips to the German autobahns)

If anyone has one and fancies a change to the above car, I have one but I would never downgrade like that

Give me a shout. You are welcome to drive mine should our paths cross :)

There's a handful of 306's running V6's, 5 at least, plus two 309's that I know of.

405 is the one I would love to do

Nah, we'll go North to Craig. Better roads further up.

Sarty is supposed to be getting his 205 (EVO II) back up and running over the next few months and he's desperate to get out on the Scottish twisties :)

He wouldn't keep up, I don't like holding back waiting for slower cars when on great roads like that :D
