Removing Engine With Gearbox In Situ ...

Recommended Posts

jonny6

Ive recently taken my 1.9 out of my 205 with the gearbox and driveshafts in situ , To be fair im new to pugs etc but have taken many a engine out in the same format with no issues , however , i struggled a bit this time , didnt seem to have the space / angle to un hook it off of the gearbox without hittting the offside inner wing , must of been doing somthing wrong , had the gear box mounts loose and box moved right over . after half an hour of cursing i decided to whip the shafts out and drop the lot out of the bottom lifting car up on the ramp . So come on then , what was i doing wrong , any tricks or tips that can help ?

no chance will it come out of the top with the shafts in IMO, with removal of the rad and transmission mounting bracket they come out easily though in one go.

if I'm ever removing an engine its car on axle stands (not too high) shafts out, rad + slam panel out, engine+box out in one go (remove transmission mounting bracket from inner wing)

ive just took my engine out today the same way as you but with the shafts removed, but if i did it again i would take off the exhaust manifold cos it was catching on subframe and gear linkage.

Std manifold shouldn't be anywhere near the subframe, remove the gear linkages or just 'fold' them out of the way.

I think he must have dropped it out the bottom for that to be a problem.

I all ways drop mine out the bottom. Take the shafts out first and radiator and then just drop it down and pull forward exhaust manifold doesn't get in the way
