266Mm Brake Problem

Recommended Posts

samthornton1990

Basically I have hit a brick wall with my brakes!

I have purchased (foolishly) the 1999-2000 206 gti calipers, the single bolt ones.

I have got the right pads (finally) and I'm slowly getting on track with the discs (unsure what offset mine are)

http://www.106rallyeforum.com/forum2008/archive/index.php/t-21609.html (Anyone doing this conversion read <<<< massive help)

I line them up next to the hub and I am unsure if they will fit or not? As i'm new to 205s I don't know the difference between 1.6 hubs and 1.9 ones. I just assumed it'd be like going from the 247mm brakes onto the 283mm conversion on my 306 and would just bolt on.

Anyone help?

I have searched but it's not really helping

You can't use 1.6 hubs* with any of the common conversions as they're the wrong offset.

You need base model hubs if you want to retain your existing driveshafts, or 1.9 hubs but you'll need to swap the 'shafts over to the beefier 1.9 design.

206 GTi brakes are a straight swap on base model or 1.9 hubs.

If you're keeping your 1.6 hubs, best you can do is 1.6 disks and 1.9 calipers, which works very well tbh.

* - the exception is 1.6 with ABS, as these ran 1.9 type hubs and driveshafts as standard.

AFAIK there's only 2 variants of 206 gti 266 calipers. One has a 22mm thick disc the other has a 20mm. Both use different pads and offset discs aswell.

There's Lucas calipers too, but they use the same disc as the later Bosch calipers, 22mm thick, 34mm offset, th earlier 27mm offset 20mm thick discs are the same as the 306.

I'm hoping I've got the right discs :/ Mine are 20mm thick and the calipers are bosch but they aren't the later ones they're off a 1999 car and they were only produced for a year so I'm hoping they're the right ones  if not Dads and engineer so I think I'll get a large spacer made
