What was the maximum torque of your engine?

ive seen that and pmed him.

Its not slipping the bearing has collapsed and the car will be only used as a track car, so not to fused about a harsh clutch.

What clutch is currently fitted? A standard Valeo one should be fine at that power level.

A standard good quality clutch (valeo for instance) should be fine.

No need for a paddle clutch IMO.

My bearing collapsed last year after numerous years of abuse, on removal of the box the actual clutch was pretty good still so I just replaced the bearing.

I have to differ here.. I have a 7.25" 4-paddle cerametallic Helix clutch with a 200Nm aluminium cover and have absolutely no problems with it. Ok on a road car it would get a little irritating as the very low inertia (fitted to a superlight flywheel) means a fair few revs to pull away but on track it's good as gold. If it's a track focused car like you say then you won't have any problems despite the nay-sayers.

The problem is they aren't cheap, my clutch & flywheel cost over £800, but it's worth every single penny.

Ps make sure you get a cerametallic unless you're very good at heel-toe, sintered plates are like an on-off switch. Don't bother with sprung hubs either, they aren't needed on track.

i had this problem with my d turbo wheb i screwed it out.... knocked up the boost 7psi of standard and upped the fueling and it slipped when you put your foot down at low revs. It was the clutch release bearing not releasing properly.

I'm running a ap racing 4 paddle ceramic job with 250ft/lbs done 10k and no slipping. 1st gear is the only gear you notice it over a road going clutch and that's only if you pull off with very little revs on.

I've used many a standard Valeo clutch to good effect. My charged 205 runs a mi16 Valeo clutch, the power delivery is like a switch and easily puts down 200lb torque/250bhp.

What clutch are you actually using? Gti6, mi16, standard gti......?

I didn't have any problems with my standard Valeo clutch either, thought I'd killed it at Oulton Park but it turned out the release bearing had just broken and slipped round a little. Still, the Helix jobbie has made a massive difference to the way it drives so definitely worth it. :)

When you say wrecked what do you actually mean?

Id put a standard clutch back in and not worry about it. I'll be using the same old mi16 clutch thats been with me for years when i put my car back on the road in March hopefully. The valeo release bearing was plastic and actually broke up after just a few miles when first fitted if i remember right. Replaced it for an all metal version from local bearing factors.

strange how people have had no problems with standard clutch, i had had a valeo mi16 one and dturbo one and both were destroyed by my turbo in no time kept slipping on boost in higher gears. now run a cerametalic helix paddle clutch as said its heavy but not to bad for road use, only in heavy traffic it gets annoying.

+1

My Mi16 Valeo clutch slips in third and forth (maybe fifth). I have a 2.0 turbo engine running a bar.

it was just the bearing had broke up and it would not compress the spring propperly, sorted now.

probably the way turbo engines deliver the power makes the clutch slip?

ive got a paddle clutch on a billet flywheel and no issues here with 230hp NA Gti-6 engine.

glad it's a simple issue to fix

std clutch for me, not had any issues.

also, as ash says turbo will make a difference, also the condition of the flywheel

Clutches are rated by torque, not power; and turbo engines put out great surges of torque, which is probably why people find they slip. If the standard clutch is only rated to 160Nm (a guess) and your engine puts out 250Nm, guess what will happen!

Clutches can put up with plenty more torque than they have to when used in a standard engine. 25-50% more isn't unlikely.

The quality between batches of Valeo clutches seem to differ greatly.

I ran my mi conversion on a paddle and no issues for 30k miles. Slightly more care needed in setting off(you get used to it) but after that no issues whatsoever.
