1.9 8V Strokef

Recommended Posts

Gavin Waddell

I had a mate in the uk that had stroked a 8v vw engine and it went rather quick, I was wondering if any one had stroked a 1.9 8v engine. If Possible what components would be needed? I also ask because i want to change my engine ( it's a 1.6) but have to keep an 8v (visually, but internals can be different)for the mot.

not heard of any stroked alloy block engines, plenty of iron block ones though.

the only known way to increace an alloy block's capacity is an overbore, or special liners.

If the 2.1 TD 92mm stroke crankshaft has the same clearance regarding the bearings of an 86mm xu 10 crank it should fit the alloy block after removing a bit of material near the thrust bearings.

Sorry for not doing my maths but what capacity would that make it?

1991cc, not a massive increase really, as the bore is smaller than commonly used with the 92mm crank the increases are smaller.

going from 86 to 92mm on an 86mm bore iron block would give 1998 to 2137, increase bore to 87mm gives 2187.

88mm bore x 92mm stroke gives 2238cc, though this is said to be pushing the iron blocks too far.
