205 Roland Garros

I've just got a 205 Roland Garros with a headgasket failure but it still runs, drove fine aswel.

I was planning to break it for parts then scrap it but it seems a shame after i've had a good look round it. Interiors good 100% original with original white trimmed mats, wear on the drivers seat sadly. Ash tray looks untouched and the cigarette lighter hasn't been used by the looks! Electric windows and central locking.

So what do people think, should I break it or fix it and sell it?

sounds like it would be better saved from the description you give! i have seen a few of these but almost all of them in very poor condition so a rare good condition one would probably go up in value! and of course you will have the satisfaction of saving another 205! :D

It's not mint, dent in the door and bent valance, easily fixed though.

What sort of price would I get do you think? Obviously with a fixed head gasket. Mileage is 126k and i'm the third owner now.

And like you say it would be nice to save it but i'm only allowed to keep it for a month maximum as it's taking space on the drive lol.

with mot and tax and a new headgasket and a good clean it would have to be worth £750+ of anybodys money i reckon!

shame you dont have a bigger drive lol then you could really go to town and make some serious £££'s as there are not many around in show condition and i am sure that model has enthusiasts.

Just had a good look at the car, ran it for 30mins or so and the gaskets seems fine. No 'mayo' no exessive pressure in the oil, no oily water or noise coming from the expansion tank.

Checked the recipt from the garage and it said theres a leak from a valve in cylinder 3. Seems odd as it ran run and started perfect afer I took the airbox off and on.

Might just try sell it how it is then.

check the valve clearances, might find #3 valve is too tight and its opening up when hot.

That's because you submitted a one line breaking thread without any prices on it <_<

(this thread will be locked/removed if it turns into a For Sale btw)

Doesn't matter anyway as I'm not braking it anymore. Will get a fr sale thread up, WITH a price ;)

It's odd. My DTurbo's clocks are fine.

Definatly saving. As soon as it arrived I knew I just couldn't brake it and scrap it. Any other car and it wouldn't even bother me haha

Me and a mate done a few bits today.

Fixed on the valace properly, replaced the driving lamp and gave it a good clean and t-cut. I've realised that I havn't really been using the choke properly, on full it make the car die but partially on it starts fine so I guess there's no problem with it  once it's warm it start absolutely fine, when cold partial choke and its running.

So I have no idea what the guy thought was wrong with it, perhaps he didn't know it had a choke in the 7years he had it

Dont really know much about carbs as they'r not what i've been taught to fix as they aren't used it cars any more.

The needles bend because on lower spec cars they were thin and cheap and bent in the sunlight. On GTI's, Dturbo's etc they had the thicker better needles!
