does anyone know where i can get a haynes manual for my 1988 1.6 gti

New from various places, or look on eBay or local charity shops for 2nd hand ones - the older ones ("owners workshop manual" on the front) are better than the newer ones ("service and repair manual" on the front) as there's much more detail in certain sections that was removed completely in later manuals.

 

There are incomplete (but still useful) PDF copies available for download - check M@tt signature for a link

Look at the signature of M@tt at the top of this page - there's a link to the 205 Haynes manual as well as some other useful stuff
